Displaying Screen through USB-C to HDMI

2018-02-22, 13:36 PM

I run a training lab and our company uses all MOTO Z phones for our technicians. We use several apps through the phone and it is necessary to display the screen of the phone on a larger display like a projector or large monitor. I currently have a USB-C to multi-function output (HDMI, 15-pin monitor, RJ-45) and I would like to output the screen of phone to the HDMI or 15-pin monitor output to input that in to either a projector or TV. What do I need to make this happen?

Thank you!

Dustin

Officially motorola has said that the phone doesn't support HDMI out. Chromecast is the only supported screen duplication method i know of.

This is unacceptable. I need a solution too... Is it a hardware or software limitation? If hardware than I'm off to a competitor and buh-bye Moto... It's been a nice 25 plus year ride but I can't tolerate another fail-orola. This is why I haven't upgraded to Z3....

I don't know if it is hardware or software. I am not sure anyone here does as this is primarily a user to user forum. I don't think any Moto phone has supported HDMI out since they got rid of the HDMI jack.

Yeah I have learned that since my rant. It's disappointing but life goes on.

I had forgotten about the micro HDMI connection on my former Motorola X and X2! I was sad when I lost that (as I actually used it).  USB-C can be very powerful and it's a shame not to make use of its capabilities.

It has potential but the industry has moved away from hardwired connections and they make phones as thin as possible. Almost everything now is wireless. I don't think we'll see a change in the near future.

The trouble with wireless is latency. In my case, I need to use the USB-C for HDMI to a pair of AR glasses for drone use. Clearly milliseconds matter when flying.

Is the Z2 hardware capable? I really need to hear it is. Please confirm so I can begin working on root and unlocking the feature.

Thanks in advance!

Like already stated, I don't think anyone here can say with 100% certainty that the hardware will support it.

With all due respect, it may be interesting theoretically, but we can't discuss it in here.  It's modding the phone.
