Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

My phone is less than 2 years old and has been well taken care of. It will completely drain within a matter of minutes and it freezes up multiple times a day (8-10+).  I have read suggestions from others and I have tried the following: dumped the cache, completed all updates and upgrades, deleted over half of my apps, etc. I went to my provider (Verizon) today and everything the specialist suggested I have completed. He did say that the Moto Z Force has been known to have issues, but, unfortunately, Motorola has never ordered a recall or a fix. The specialist also suggested buying another phone (of course). Has anyone found a fix for these issues?

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

Don't believe everything a Verizon specialist tells you.  Their job is to sell you a new phone, not fix your current phone.  They will tell you that your phone "has issues" so you buy a new one.

The main issue is Oreo 8.0.  If your phone is dying that fast you have apps that are completely incompatible with Oreo 8.0, more than likely.  If that was my phone I would backup all personal data, files, music, pics somewhere safe.  On a SD Card, USB drive, a computer, etc. and then factory reset the phone.  That will start over fresh & clean.  But don't just install every app right away, install a few at a time and see how it goes.  Then a few more, etc.  That way if you see the phone draining ot crashing you know what to uninstall.

I need to do the same thing with my phone, I just haven't had time.  But mine is not draining in minutes, that's a bit drastic.  There probably isn't much else you can do except start over fresh & clean.  It's something to consider.  Just make sure all personal files are backed up off the phone so they are not lost forever.

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

My phone the Moto Z Force Droid from Verizon updated about a week ago and now since the update my battery drains in 1 to 2 days and before I only charged it about every 3 1/2 days when it hit 20% or a little less. Now it's getting where the battery is getting low every 1 1/2 days and I hit force stop almost every time I use it to stop all running apps to see if it helps stop the draining so fast. Has anyone else been having this issue since the update a week ago ? If so please tell me what if anything you did to help solve this issue.

Thanks, Jimmy

Getting low battery every 1 1/2 days?  Mine drains every 6 hours.

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

My phone drains in a matter of minutes. It will go from full charge to dead in about 30 minutes. My "mobile" phone is a joke.

Hi SMilesIN,

Thanks for posting. Could you please update your profile with current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

I am having the same issues. I just unplugged my phone to have lunch and it shut down in less than 30 minutes. It said it was out of power but the battery level also said it was at 74%.

This phone is less than 2 years old and shouldn't be doing this. I have already done a complete reset to fix this and it didn't help at all.

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

My phone has been doing the same thing. I even purchased a battery mod to see if that would help problems. But now phone freezes more and battery dies mysteriously after reboot.

Please contact me directly with some assistance.

Thanks

Hi NerdMomiamthelady,

Thanks for posting here. I'd like to confirm, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Could you please update your profile with the IMEI and other details? (Instruction is given on my previous reply). And if you allow me, I can check if it has something to do with your apps. Let me know. Thanks.

Re: Fast Battery Drain and Phone Freezes Up

I'm having a quick battery drain issue as well.  There is no physical damage to the phone and it was working well prior to the Oreo update.  Now my battery is draining amazingly fast.  I can watch it drops 5%-10% in just a few minutes while perusing social media.  The only thing keeping it functional is an external battery pack.  I've run it in safe mode, but it still does it.  I did a factory reset and a full recharge, but nothing changed.  What is the deal? Why is Motorola not acknowledging or fixing this?
