Re: Gamepad mod Battery issue

2017-11-01, 3:20 AM

Can add this user to the list. I just received my gamepad today and it does not charge the phone.  The battery on the mod reads full.  As a result in lucky to get two hours of gametime total using just the phone battery.  I have two battery mods and the car dock, all of which do charge the phone properly.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Same issue here. I have a Z Play and a Z2 Play and the Gamepad mod is not charging any of them while playing. I have a TurboPower pack and it charges the phones correctly so it's not the phones. When I check for updates on the Mod it says it's on the latest one.

Please someone from Motorola/Lenovo give us an update on this issue.

I am having the same issue with my Gamepad (created an account to add to this post.) It's very disappointing, the onboard battery was a big draw for me. Can someone from support please weigh in on this? I have also contacted Motorola support directly and they have been no help thus far. I received the Gamepad as a gift so I don't have the option to return or exchange it to the retailer.

Hello all, I apologize for any confusion. The 1035 mAh built-in battery powers your moto gamepad for up to 8 hours without recharging. It does not charge or provide power to the phone. The gamepad battery is for the gamepad only.

Tom-

I think there is a misunderstanding. We know the phone won't charge but the game pad is drawing power from the phone and staying 100% charged. Versus using both batteries for play.

While I agree it might be a bit confusing, it's still accurate as it doesn't use your phone battery to power the gamepad so you can game for up to 8 hours.

How did you determine that the gamepad is pulling power from the phone? Are you seeing more battery drain form internal battery while using the gamepad then you would without the gamepad while playing the same games?

The phone seems to be draining faster while playing games, although how much of that is due to the strain of the game vs. powering the gamepad is unclear. I can tell you however that after playing games for an hour or so the battery of the mod is still at 100% while the phone battery is down by 15-20%. That shouldn't be happening.

Can you try the same game without the gamepad attached and see if you see the same drain? Also, what game are you playing and which phone are you using. I'll try to test on mine.
