Re: Gamepad mod Battery issue

2018-07-01, 21:46 PM

On another battery issue with the gamepad is that the turbo charger functionality is not passed through to the phone so it even says slow charge on the lock screen. This is a real issue when gaming since the gaming can draw the battery faster than the charge can be delivered. Anyone else has "slow charge" when charging through the gamepad? V 30.22 on the software of the gamepad .

Hi therealruneston,

Thanks for sharing. May I know when did this issue first happened? Please check if the mod has a system update. While the mod is attached to the phone kindly go to Settings > Moto Mod > System Update. We can also test this on safe mode, to make sure no this is not caused by some third-party apps. Let me know, thanks.

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.
3. Touch OK when Reboot to safe mode appears

Best regards,
Rich

Re: Gamepad mod Battery issue

Hi, I noticed this on the first charge with the moto mod attached.

There are no updates available.

It slow charges even in safe mode, with 98% battery, 100% on the moto mod.

I tried both normal USB 5V and QC 3.0 (TurboCharge) with the same result.

I use a Z2 force, for the record.

Best regards, Rune

Hi therealruneston,

Are you only having slow charging message when the mod is connected? How about charging just the phone itself? Please try resetting the mod. Just press and hold the power button of the mod follow the prompt response. I would also suggest testing the mod to another Z mod capable to see if you'll see the same charging message. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.

There is no denying that charging through the gamepad mod is extremely slow. The battery being useless is very dissapointing . Decent charging speed and a fix for the battery to do something would have made this a much better accessory. Stereo speakers would have been sweet too.

It's really interesting how motorola employees still pretend that there is some support for the gamepad.

I'm sorry to tell guys, but I've received a massage from a Moto executive in germany that the issues of the gamepad mod, concerning the battery, will very likely not be resolved. My case at the support was simply closed after I certainly stressed them too much with my wish of a mod that should at leased work as advertised.

So, hopes should be kept low when hoping for a fix.

Moto, proove me wrong, if you feel that this message is unjustified. Waiting almost half a year ;)

OK, so then just release the code as open source and release all the hardware specs, please dear Motorola/Lenovo. At least then we will have a slim chance that this can be fixed. Thanks for all replys so far.

IMO, motot z3 line is coming out and this is the last line that will support the mods. And so mods are done because there is another 6 months or so of people buying the moto z 3 along with mods and then that's it. So I can see why they don't want to spend much more time on them.

Too bad.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the report. We'll sure pass this along to the Product Team so they can look at it.

Hi again, so what is the latest update? Do we have to open up the gamepad and switch the charge connectors around to get it to charge the phone while playing and also to pass the QC3 charge right through instead of just charging the gamepad?
