Moto Command Center Widget Missing from Oreo Update

2018-06-21, 19:09 PM

After updating to Oreo today, I immediately noticed that the Command Center widget was changed/replaced.  Before, it looked like this:

You can see the high/low temp on the left as well as the battery levels for both my phone and my Moto Mod on the right.  After the phone was updated, it was replaced on my screen with the Time and Weather widget, which looks like this:

Unless I am missing something, there doesn't seem to be a way to customize the widget, or to expand it to include the previous widget's most useful features.  My favorite part about the widget is that it integrated seamlessly into the Moto Mod ecosystem.  Is it possible for Motorola to post a link so we can download the previous Command Center widget?

Thanks!

You aren't missing anything.  It's now called Time and Weather, not Command Center.  It's now like the Time & Weather widget on the Z2 phones.

Oh, and Moto will not provide a link to download the previous version.  That's not allowed on this forum.  If it doesn't exist on the Play Store, then it's not allowed to be linked here.  If you do a Google search you may find sites that claim to have the previous version.  Who knows if they really work though?

OK, then I officially request that Motorola post the Command Center widget in the Play Store.  :smileyhappy:

It was quite useful.  The Time and Weather widget even briefly displays "moto mods connected" when something is attached, yet shows absolutely no information about the Moto Mod.  It's like Moto Mods are half-integrated and part of the features were just left out.

Another example of the powers that be. Losing the Command Center functions is disappointing for several reasons. You no longer see the battery status of attached mods, no color change options, and the phone battery status. I'm OK without most of that, but the mod battery status was very useful and convenient. The wake screen shows the main phone battery status, and I guess that's OK. It always seems that some of the most useful stuff has a way of disappearing with new OS updates. The logic in that is rarely very obvious or defendable. But, what do I know.  The saga continues.

Anything is possible, but I highly doubt that will happen.  I also miss the Command Center widget, and miss the ability to change colors to match my wallpaper, see battery stats at a glance, etc.  But I also know that things change and sometimes not everyone likes the changes.  There may be plenty of people that like the new style.  I plan on buying a Z3 later this Summer so I knew I was going to have to get used to Time & Weather eventually.  As fas as Moto Mod batteries, there is a Moto Mod icon in the Notification panel, a quick one swipe down and you can see Battery % and tap to stop / start charging.

Just for kicks and jollies, I'm trying out the 1 Weather weather widget and app. With Oreo, Moto's Time and Weather widget went backwards.  Without the Mod battery feature, there's just not much point in it. Maybe Moto will get the message, and reinstate the Command Center, at least as an option?

One bonus of using the 1 Weather widget, is that the current temperature shows up, along with the usual notifications on the Active display screen

I found the Circles app that works with 8.0 on my Moto z and Z2 Force, where can I upload the file/app?

here is the name of the app that works Circle_Clock_Widget_v3dpi110.apk

I don't think this forum provides the ability to upload files for sharing.
