Moto Z2 Force charging problem

2018-10-22, 6:00 AM

Hello all, I have come into a problem with my Moto Z2 Force, when plugged ibto the Turbopower charger it will not recognize said charger and instead say "Slow charging" or "Charging" even though it's plugged into the Turbopower brick, I have tested the outlet and made sure it was secure and have come to the conclusion that's either the phone, brick, or cable, if anyone else is having this issue please tell me how to fix this.

Update: phone will only register a normal charge if connected to an external battery, and will not recognize the Turbopower charger brick at all.

Unplug the original, Motorola branded USB-C Turbocharger. Do not use a 3rd party device. Do not use a Motorola Turbocharger to charge someone elses 3rd party USB-C device that is not a genuine Motorola phone.

If it is a Motorola USB-C turbocharger with a removable cable, be sure to use the original cable that shipped with the charger

Plug the TurboCharger and original cable it came with into the wall direcly, not to a smartoutlet or power strip

Wait about 3-5 seconds

Now plug your phone in with a reasonably firm press/insertion of the original cable. Wait about 3 seconds...does the screen message change to indicate turbocharging?

If you are not sure if you have the original cable or not, mark it with tape, label each with a unique code, and start to test all avaliable cables you may have that could fit, until you find the original one that works. Remember to wait about 5 seconds between each plug in moment.

I only have the original cable and brick so the 3rd party things aren't the issue, and no plugging it in directly to the socket on the wall gave me the same "slow charging" message, and I also tried the other 2 outlets in the room with the same result.

I'm starting to think it's the brick since since the same happens to my friend on her phone (she has the first Moto Z) but there's no way of testing this since she uses a wireless charger pad.

It's the charger. I have to drop 40 bucks on new oem turbopower™ 30w charger every 4 months. After a year I found cleaning out the phone's charger port with plastic collar stiffeners helped but the usb-c charger ends fail quickly and seeing that they are fused to the charger brick (not detachable) makes this twice as bad! Oh and I can only find detachable cord moto charger bricks w/ detachable cord only as strong as 15w turbo chargers for moto z force XT1650-02, rather than the needed 30 watt (28.5W) 5.7A #89909N. I MAY HAVE to attempt to cut off charger usb c end and splice on new usbc end. Considering I have a pile of these 30W chargers all with bad usbc ends.

As old as the phone & battery are, it's probably the battery failing.  I doubt a new charger will help.  You could try a different charger, but you probably need a new battery.

Hi Majid123,

This sounds like a hardware failure. Are you using the original charger? If the phone is still working, try doing the factory data reset via Settings > Factory data reset. Backup your files, but we recommend not restoring your apps/backup. Otherwise, if the phone is not booting up. try going into the fastboot mode and perform external reset. Here's the link on how to perform external reset. Make sure you are connected to the charger. You may also try connecting your phone to a PC and do the Rescue function using LMSA tool.

Here are the links:

Please let me know if that helps. Thanks.
