"Technical Support" is neither technical or support for most tech operations. It's usually someone with a script to solve typical user error problems. You won't get anywhere unless you get escalated to and talk to a real engineer who can understand and reproduce the problem. All the low level folks can do is read from a script. If you get turned away a ticket gets closed and it looks like they solved your problem in the monthly reports. Anyone know how to get through to the next level? Companies often don't make this easy.

Try selecting a new notification default sound. It will be nearly inaudible for 3-5 seconds then play at full volume. If your notification sound is short it will never get loud. If you select a sevond or third sound it may play at full volume. Close the settings app, reopen it, and the first sound you select will be nearly inaudible for the first few seconds. If this doesn't happen to you you are not on the latest update or are extremely lucky. Both my phones did this after a couple of updates.

What version does this affect. I bought an unlocked Moto Z from Motorola web site in October of this year.

My security patch says July 1 2016 Build number MPL24.246-20 and everytime I check for updates it says there are none available.

If youre on the July patch you won't have the problem. What I don't understand is why your phone is telling you youre on the latest version when youre not.

I know this probably doesn't help the folks that are experiencing the issue described, but my new Z Force doesn't seem to have this issue (yet).  I activated it this past Friday evening, and upgraded to 6.0.1 - then a security patch - then to Nougat 7.0 without setting it up or entering my Google account or installing apps.  Once all of that was complete I did a FDR and then entered my account and started installing apps and setting up the phone.  The notification volume is nowhere near as loud as it was on my Turbo 2, but it seems to be loud enough to hear it and does not seem to start off soft and increasingly get louder.

Glad to hear that itis not a problem for you!  I am sure you are using a louder notification sound - the one I use is loader so it is not as big a problem for me as it is for others who might like a shorter more descreet notification ringtone - that they will still hear ...

I would be amazed with all of the feedback here that you don't have the problem though, even if it isn't a problem for you.  Have someone call you ... I am betting your sound starts off soft and gets louder.

If Lenovo needs to see a raising of hands ... I also will think twice before buying another Lenovo product because of Lenovo's terrible communication about this problem.  It just speaks poorly of the company.

In terms of usability, I side stepped the whole issue by installing an app that fixes the problem for me.  The app is Missed Call Reminder, you can customize the reminder any way you need to so that a low volume notifications won't be missed ...

The GSM unlocked models are on a different path than the Droids.

I know. I find it strange to. Everyday I go to settings-about phone-system updates and it always tells me I am up to date.

Even for security updates?

Re: Quiet notifications moto z

I found a solution (work around) that works for me.

It's become clear to me and many others that this issue will not be fixed anytime soon if at all. So I took some advice from one of the other contributors to this forum and got MacroDroid from the app store. It was free and worked for me. I spent a bit of time finding and testing the best macro settings for my wants.  I attached a screen shot of my macro settings to this comment.  I hope this helps others. I just worked it out tonight and haven't given it time for any real world testing. But with my in limited testing it played the notification sound at full volume via Google Play Music without opening the full app.  The only negative is that the file that is being played is shown on the screen but is easy dismissed by touching anywhere else on the screen.  I hope this is helpful.  Good luck to all of us Moto Z suckers.
