Re: Quiet notifications moto z

2016-12-09, 20:05 PM

Well, I just spent almost an hour on the phone talking to India (they don't have a clue), then the Phillipines supposed level 2 tech support (he understood but couldn't help), then I got transferred to LEVEL 3 support. I didn't know they had such a thing. The guy was real nice and told me that the escalating ring volume is causing the notification low volume. He said he has talked to many people with this very problem and it has been escalated to development. He said that he did not know of a timeframe of when the issue would be fixed, but that they are indeed working on it. I work in tech support for a cell phone carrier (I can't tell you who, sorry) and I can say that from past experience the people on the phone are the very last to hear an update is coming. Usually we hear about it because our phones start getting the update. I'm going to hold out hope that the fix is coming, but everyone keep shaming them both here and on social media and let's see if we can speed up the process a little bit.

Don't get me wrong, Lenovo DOES need to fix this, but there are options to get rid of the problem.  I've been using the app Disable Increasing Ring for the past week and the notification ringtone is very loud.  It almost startles me it's so loud.  We need to keep on Moto/Lenovo to fix it, but enough with the whining that the phone is useless.  Just use one of the work arounds. Many have been detailed on this thread.  I'm not defending Lenovo. I'm not a Moto fan boy.  I hate that they screwed it up and I have to use an app to fix a problem that didnt exist before, but the phone is just fine for me with the app running.  I'll be happy if and when they fix it in the software, but I'm sure not going to sweat it too much.

Regarding the "Disable Increasing Ringtone" app, I was not able to get it to work.

Did you get into the apps menu and select "Grant Permissions"?  It won't work at all until you do that.  Select "New Normalization" on the first screen then go to the menu upper right and select "Grant Permissions".  It should work after that.  The little sliders on the first screen don't seem to make much difference.  It certainly may be disabled by other volume controlling apps that you have installed as well though.  It works fine for me and others that I know that have the Z phones.

I think I have a workaround for this.  It's working for me at least.

I read about the fix using the Device Help app in this thread, but saw it was then broken with the latest update.  However, if you go into App management and disable the app, it will allow you to downgrade to the original factory version.  Once that is done you can re-enable it.  Then open the app, which will now be the original version, do the fix by testing the speaker, and exit.  Test your ring and notification tones to be sure.  Then go back to App management and disable the app again.  This will keep it from getting updated automatically or by mistake in the future.

I realize the newer Device Help app has some other fixes.  I haven't run into those issues at this point as I've only had the phone for 4 days.

Thanks jkaod.  I will give it another try.  Did you disable sound notifications in any of the individual apps that you want notifications from, like Verizon Message Plus, Gmail, etc

Also, are you getting advertising from this app?

I didn't disable anything else, but I also don't have notifications turned on for anything except text messages.  No e-mail notifications, nada.  Therefore, I have no idea if this works for other notifications,  I assume that it would, but you know how that one goes.  Let us know if you got it working and if it works for other notifications too.

I just received an email regarding your latest response and the sound was definitely much louder.  Wonderful.  Two more questions.  What's the Bonus feature for following on FB, G+, etc., and it looks like we will need to pay for the app's service after a 10 day trial period.
