Don't get me wrong motonovo... Android N is awesome, and so is the continuous security patches from Google. But this company better start putting updates for resolving problems to the front of the list! It is just the smart thing to do. You could also call it the ethical thing to do, hell you might not have to give phones away anymore just to keep your sales numbers up.

5 months now with this pathetic issue that affects a basic function of the phone! That is pretty **bleep** sad. Not going to revive the moto brand to its glory with this kind of mentality. Someone really needs to do a better job at making priority calls with your updates.

I see you said over a month ago?? Verizon has a 14 day exchange policy.... Then don't allow any updates. I'm still on Android 6 with with security patch September. Notifications are still on the quiet side but not as bad as Android 7 with December security patch.

Welcome to the club. This is something a lot of us have been dealing with since August. The comment you made about tapping on the notification sounds three or four times and they gradually get louder, is exactly what has been happening since these phones first came out. You will notice the same thing when "liking" posts on Facebook. If you just "like" one post you'll never hear anything, but if you do 3 or 4 in Rapid succession you will start hearing the sound coming from the "like" button. But if the phone sits idle for more than a few seconds it will go right back to silence and you will hear nothing. Now if you are watching anything that contains audio, such as YouTube videos, all notification sounds will come through Extremely Loud while the video is playing. But unfortunately the problem is it also does this when you're on a phone call. If you receive a message or if you are on an active navigation route using the GPS in maps and you come up on your next turn while on a phone call with someone ,the GPS voice will come through into your ear so loud it's deafening. So rest assured this is "normal" operation for these phones and this is how it's always been and we are all still waiting for something to fix the problem. But it's not looking very good at this point...We are all still holding our breath for the "Solved Problem" to be fixed.

If you're tech savvy.... Search this on Google....

Download NPL25.86-17-3

Just search this. It shows this update already out there  December 29th that addresses the low notifications issue. Obviously 17-3 seems to take a step backwards.

Why didn't Verizon users get the 17-3?

Everyone is getting 17-4.

Am I missing something?

My thoughts exactly. They have it for download online but I don't want to brick my new phone

I believe NPL software is for unlocked versions and NCL software is for Verizon version. Check the software version on your device. So if it's out for unlocked we should be seeing it soon.

Don't get your hopes too high though. I am on the latest update for unlocked models and although the update log mentioned notification fix,  it hasn't fixed anything for me.

Are the unlocked Z's still on marshmallow? That's F#ed up

I have the Canadian xt1650-03 international Z.

Via XDA I sideloaded Nougat then the update that fixes the notification problem. I did this a month ago and haven't had any issues since.

No more waiting for my carrier Telus to push out OTA updates.

795 messages in this thread to this point, and no input for many days from Moto/Lenovo.  I wrote a scathing review of this phone on the Verizon website which is something that I've never done before.  I also went to the Verizon store this past weekend, in an attempt to argue that I should be permitted to get out of my contract and move to a different phone because they fundamentally changed the phone with a software update after my 14 day trial period was up.  I tried to argue that it no longer functioned as it did before and on that basis, I should be let out of my contract.  As expected, I got nowhere with that argument.  I can't tell you how unhappy and frustrated I am with this piece of crap, and the fact that Moto/Lenovo doesn't seem to care only makes it more infuriating.

Well with my experiences with Verizon you should call the phone number. On the phone you'll get a customer service representative. But when you go in the store you get a sales person. All a sales person can do is sale you something.
