Battery drain on Moto z play caused by media?

2017-01-14, 20:49 PM

Hey guys

I bought my moto z a month ago and everything was running just fine but suddenly the battery that would normally last around 25 hours started lasting around 9/10 hours.  Midia is using right now 243 mAh of battery and the phone is almost 100% awake even when  the screen is off.  Is there something to do with the media app? Waiting for suggestions,  thankss

You are showing 4-5 hours of screen on time.  That could be a large part of your drain.

As for what is keeping awake.  Hard to say. Often it is something not even reported.  Have you tried restarting the phone? Often thar clears things up.

This would have been my suggestion. You might also see if there's an update for the app, or uninstall and reinstall it. If none of that works, you might try a different media player.

Sometimes a good app will receive an update that just kills it. I've experienced that recently with TWC TV and ai.type Keyboard.

Hello,

You have mentioned a word, "all of a sudden", can you recall what app exactly you have installed after that you are facing such issue? Try uninstalling it.

1. First off all, your highest battery drainer is ur screen brightness ie 15%(plz keep it low, as per requirement bcoz, it will definitely drain out ur battery in terms of long period.

2. Go to app permissions, and only give the permissions that you want to allow. Disable other permissions, like some app uses, bluetooth, wi-fi, gps, network, disable them, If u think app is using these without any requirement.

3. For screen always On, check, if in the developers options, you have mistakenly enabled the USB debugging or Keep screen On. If yes, disable them. Also, check the screen off settings under power options.

4. Note that, if you install 3rd party apps other than available in google play stores. Do uninstall them right now. There is no authenticity of such apps.

5. If you use free apps (including games), always turn off Internet (mobile data, wifi, etc) while using/running such apps because most of the free apps uses push ads via data networks resulting in dra inning out the battery.

6. Try keeping ur data connection off, if not required.

Hope these will work for you.

Regards.

Yeah,  i actually did it.  The only thing i did to solve the problem was disabling the media storage app.  That solved the problem but then the photos from my device wouldn't appear on the gallery anymore.

Apparently the problem is on the SD card which is mounted as internal storage on the phone.  With the sd card ejected i got no battery drain

I have a micro SD card in my Z Play, but I set it up as portable storage, and battery life is excellent.

Yeah, please go for a full format, might be your card is having some bug or virus.

Do you have large media files stored?

Applications like anti virus, media players do perform media scanning also. I am just assuming.
