I disagree with this.

I have checked with moto customer care, they confirmed the phone has FM chip.

I confirmed with Qualcomm snapdragon website , this chip snapdragon 625 supports FM radio. ASUS zenfone 3 which has the same processor supports FM radio app, so which means Motorola's FM radio app alone is not compatible with Moto Z Play.

Please consider releasing it ASAP.

**bleep**? I bought the moto z and can't get the fm tuner working either. Maybe the carriers disabled it?

Even if the processor supports "FM Radio", it will only work if there is a dedicated antenna for the Radio.

And since there is no app inbuilt, I highly doubt that the phone has an internal antenna.

Actually, other phones use the wired headset as an FM antenna.  The real issue is enabling the FM radio in the SOC if it exists.

They do, but there has to be a tuning circuit for frequency matching. The headphone cable isn't going to magically become an antenna.
Considering that the Z/Z Force do not have headphone jack in the first place, I highly doubt that Moto would take the trouble to build the required radio hardware on the budget Z Play

The G has it - works with or without headphone wire, but better with headphone wire (on screen help says this too) - so the lack of a headphone jack is only a small issue.

FM radios are built into most SoCs - it is up to the manufacturer to activate it. Probably a licensing cost too.
