MOTO Z play batter backup reduced after March security update.

2017-04-24, 15:10 PM

3 days back I updated my moto z play to march security update and just after that battery backup has visibly reduced. For the same usage I am barely able to get through the day while previously  I was able to squeeze out 1.5+ days. SOT has reduced from 8.5 hours to 5-6 hours. I have cleaned the cache from recovery and in battery usage there is  nothing suspicious. As usual screen is consuming most of the battery juice followed by either voice calls or my apps, just like before. But backup has reduced. What should I do?

Hi leoavi94,

Since you just updated your device to the latest version, I suggest doing clear cache partition and see if that works.

As mentioned in the post above, I have already done that via recovery.

LOL!!! Reading is fundamental!

Have you tried running the phone in safety mode for a bit to see if your battery drains at a similar rate? Are you with Verizon in the USA using the Droid Moto Z Play? If so, I'm not experiencing anything major like this so far (lucky me it's usually the opposite...), and maybe it could be a faulty device. But yeah. Your battery should not be draining that fast. I think that's a worse battery life than the Droid Mini.

Hi leoavi94,

Would you please update your profile with the serial/IMEI/MEID number of your phone? is it okay if we look at your apps? This will help us investigate. Make sure that your Motorola Privacy is enabled.

Hello,

Has this issue been investigated and was there any solution that can be shared?

I have similar problem after the march update.

On top of what was described by leoavi, my OTG cable stopped working - it worked fine until the march update.

Since then I tried everything:

1. Clearing cache from within UI and from Recovery Mode

2. Safe mode

3. Factory Reset from Recovery Mode and installing minimal set of apps

4. Hard reset and battery calibration

5. changing carrier band from LTE to 2G - not using mobile data, just for voice

6. Enabling Data Saver mode to limit app activity

7. update with april security patch

Issues still persist - battery is draining much faster and OTG is not working.

I am facing a similar issue that started with March security update and was not corrected by April update.

For me also the screen off battery draining became much much higher. Whereas the device indicates that it goes into sleep mode when screen is off - no application is keeping the device "awake".

On top of the battery issue my OTG stopped working - it worked fine before March update.

I have done these things and nothing worked to correct battery nor OTG:

1. Clearing cache from within UI and from Recovery Mode

2. Safe mode

3. Factory Reset from Recovery Mode and installing minimal set of apps

4. Hard reset and battery calibration

5. changing carrier band from LTE to 2G - not using mobile data, just for voice

6. Testing battery consumption with flight modus with screen off - no change

7. Enabling Data Saver mode to limit app activity

8. Sync off

9. Update to April and May OTA - no change .. did factory reset after both updates

I would like a solution from Lenovo/Motorola for these issues that are apparently created by regular security updates.
