I had the exact same problem on my phone. Did a factory reset and still had the problem. Took it back to Verizon and they confirmed it was broken. Since it didn't have any obvious damage and was still under warranty, they sent me a new phone the next day. Will return the damaged phone tomorrow. Yea!! Problem solved. New phone works great.

Hi are you able to help me. I have a z play that had the screen give up on me or something if that sort. It turns on I can hear the lock sound when I press the power button. The charging indicator lights up. I receive notifications but the screen remains black. If you're able to provide any insight on this issue it would mean a lot. Thanks

@sabeard: Thanks for this suggestion. I did FORCE STOP the PHONE APP & started it from icon. But after sime time the same issue reappeared.
Then I UNINSTALLED GO LAUNCHER after which the issue is permanently resolved.

I am having this problem as well. I have done the safe mode, problem remains during safe mode. I have confirmed that I am on the latest update available. I have run the hardware test and the proximity failed. How can I resolve this, please?

Thanks for posting on the thread. You may have to try doing a factory data reset. This should help.
Factory Data Reset:
Settings > System > Reset options > Factory Reset
*Backup your important files before doing the reset so you won't lose them
*Don't restore your backup until you've seen improvements
