My phone is having the same problem with the screen lifting from the top left corner. I noticed this around the same time my battery started messing up (for example, my phone randomly jumps to 0%, from any percentage.) I saw another comment that mentioned something about the battery "swelling". Is that what could be the cause?

If you are having those kinds of battery issues and the screen is lifting at the same time, then yes it does sound like a swelling battery.  Which is not good.  A replacement is the only option if the battery is swelling and pushing the screen outward.  If that is the case.  Is it still under warranty?

Everyone that is having this problem needs to call the U.S. attorney general and file a complaint against Motorola.

I feel bad for everyone that has this issue.  I have had phones die / fail within warranty and outside of the warranty.  I know it's not a good feeling.  But if the phone is outside the 12 month warranty, what good is contacting a lawyer?  If your car breaks down outside of the manufacturer warranty, do you call a lawyer?  Again, I feel bad for everyone that has these battery & screen problems.  But phones come with a 12 month warranty.  There isn't much we can do when they fail after that, except get a new phone.  I'm also frustrated with ALL cell phone battery manufacturers these days.  It seems like all cell phone batteries are not designed to last as long as they used to.

Takata's "killer" air bag inflators are out of warranty but they're being forced to replace millions of them because they are dangerous.

A swollen/defective lithium battery can burst and cause injuries and fires.

Companies are being held liable by courts for products that they haven't designed or manufactured properly.

A class action suit would be in order in the case of dangerously defective batteries.

Here we go again... Not even a year later after Verizon had to replace my device, and this one is doing the same... It seems Motorola can only make trash anymore... Every device I've had of theirs so far has had nothing but hardware failures, and this is by far one of the worst I've had. When I decide to upgrade device, this WILL be the last Motorola device I'll ever own. Lenovo can't even take responsibility for their faulty devices, and is begging for cash it seems.

Same failure here, lifting screen.  I have Verizon's insurance, cost me $89 for a like-new z play.  I guess I'll have to either choose a different phone when this happens again, or pony up 90 bucks every year and a half.

I had my moto z play do this as well about a year ago and the display lifted a little then after awhile it raised so bad recently it’s in between a 1/4 to 1/8 inch gap at the peak

Well, I read the first 25 or so post from a couple of years ago and saw a common problem. Then I skipped to the last page and with comments from just a couple of weeks ago. I am having the same problem with the newer model Motto Z2 play. Same thing screen bulging from the left side. Phone is 13 month old. I live in the US I went online for Moto support and after entering my phones imei info the system came back saying it was sold in the Cayman Islands and not eligible for repair in the United States. I figured that was going to be the case. I bought it on Amazon as an intentional version for just that purpose unlocked dual SIM functionality. I ended up keeping it as my main phone and it has been cased since day one. Now I am heading back to Europe again in a couple of days. After munch research I decided to replace the Z2 with the newer Z3 model but not newest Z4. We shall see what happens. I am not optimistic after reading this thread.

I've purchased several Moto Z play phones and one of them has the same issue othees are seeing.  The screen is bulging out aanif the battery is swelling.  Seems dangerous.

It went unoticed for a bit due to the bumper guard hiding it to some degree.

Not sure how to fix this but I bet the battery is failing.
