I recently got the GSM variant of the new Moto Z. It's my first Moto phone since having a Razr v3, and a StarTAC prior to that. Loved them, and really liking the Z so far.
Question for y'all who are more experienced with the new generation...
When I cold boot the phone, I get the Moto/Lenovo boot animation sequence (Moto > Lenovo > spinning dots), and then a screen that displays To start Android, enter your PIN. After hitting the check mark on the PIN pad, it displays Checking..., then the boot animation sequence repeats. finally landing on the home screen. No errors or anything, but is this double boot sequence what others also see?
On my other device, also running Android 6.0.1, I only see a single boot animation sequence, but unlike that device the Moto Z shows that it is Encrypted under Settings > Security > Encryption > Encrypt phone. It was set this way out of the box. I'm thinking maybe the first sequence, which asks for my PIN, is checking/decrypting?
Again... no problems with the Z. It just caught my attention while comparing differences between devices.
Thanks for any insight.

I don't see Secure Start-up anywhere under Settings > Security.

Ok, found it under Settings > Security > Screen lock > (enter current PIN) > Choose screen lock > PIN > Secure start-up.
On my GSM Z, neither radio button: Require PIN to start device, or No thanks are selected.

I can do that, but I do want the PIN requirement on cold boot-up. Also, please see the screen shot I added. Right now, neither option is selected. This is how the device came, out of the box.
I'm simply curious about why there are apparently two boot sequences.
Edit to add: With No thanks selected, does your device boot all the way to the home screen w/o PIN (or other) security prompt?
