Re: MOTO Z EXTREME BATTERY DRAIN

2018-10-30, 21:31 PM

I got the 2220mAh moto Mod for it. When I plug in the phone it first charges the internal battery to 100%.

Then it starts charging the Moto Mod. But as it does this the internal battery is still powering the phone and it gets no charge so the charge goes down to 92% or so before the logic tells the Moto Mod to stop charging and charge the internal battery again. Rinse repeat rinse repeat as it's plugged in charging the Moto Mod. That's some battery wear.

Also, in efficiency mode, the Moto Mod will not start charging the internal battery until it is less than 80% and should keep it at 80%, I haven't tested yet. But when the phone's plugged in the internal battery is charged all the way so that's another source of internal battery wear.

Ideally whenever the Moto Mod is being charged, it would pass-thru power to the internal battery, but that doesn't happen.

Ideally if the Moto Mod is set to start charging the internal battery at 80%, there'd be an additional option to also prevent the internal battery from charging when plugged in to 80%.

We'll see how long this keeps the phone usable.

Re: MOTO Z EXTREME BATTERY DRAIN

I carry it to the FlagShip Support Center in Mexico City, related with battery drain. I call them because the diagnostics email never come, and today they say that my phone is irreparable because the reparation cost exceed the value of the phone. The diagnostic for my phone is strange: processor damage. I was experimenting battery drain and all the situations that many people talk here. I have the projector, jbl speakers and external battery, and now all this is garbage. I allways invest in Motorola phones, thinking in its quality, my phone was purchased thru Amazon Mexico on june 03, 2017, and now all my investment is marked as garbage. This is happening at many people, this is not an exceptional failure, and they say that i need to go to relocate the remains. What i m going to do, this was a real big investment with accesories that only work with it. All because I trust in the Motorola brand by years (moto x, moto x play, older Startak and Bader phones also, and this moto z). I m nothing to this employees in Mexico.

My wife paid Motorola for a new phone, $150.00 or so and when she got it it had Android 7.1.1 on it. I blocked system updates and now the battery lasts 24 hours or so, like it was before the update. If some techie can figure out how to roll back the OS to 7.1.1 the phone would be useful again I believe.  Verizon Moto Z Droid

Random battery behaviour

2018-11-01, 8:09 AM
I have been experiencing problems with battery behaviour for the past couple of months on my Moto Z - rapid discharging of power and the phone shutting down at 70% battery level (originally started at 30% power level but has steadily increased).

I have factory reset the phone and now had the battery replaced by problem persists. Any ideas on my next move please?

Many thanks - Katie

Moto Z battery draining and automatically shuts off randomly

2018-11-01, 12:17 PM

I have had my phone for one year and still paying it off. Within the last 2 months it has become untrustworthy to me with it's battery problem. I've tried everything from battery recalibration to factory resetting. I have even let it charge a whole day without use, but it will still automatically shut off randomly anywhere from showing 50% to 90%. It internally registers that it is fully charged and will stop charging even though it obviously is not charged. Please help me with this problem or I will have to stop being a consumer to your products and tell people not to buy your problematic devices.

I have done factory reset and even turned off locations and have only one app that I added after one day of letting it sit.  It lost 50% just sitting there before even adding that one app.  I then charger overnight (shows 100%) unplug and try to recalibrate the battery as suggested and when it turns back on it says 15% battery.  It basically has to be left plugged in.  Pretty useless as a cell phone, so I had to get early upgrade and am out $250 bucks.  Went back to Samsung, good old Samsung, who actually stands behind their product.  If there is an issue, they resolve it.  Unlike Motorola/Lenovo that has left us all hanging with completely useless devices.  I would still like to use with MODS, so hope they will come to their senses at some point and fix the issue they have clearly caused with their updates.  They have told me I agree to take any and all responsibility to whatever may happen to my phone when agreeing to their updates.....then just wash their hands of us all.  Many, many other posts on here regarding battery issues.
