Re: Major Battery Drain After Oreo Update

2019-01-28, 21:10 PM

My wife and I both got the Moto Z force in the summer of 2017. After the Oreo update they started having trouble.

Her's declined much faster than mine and I was able to find a fix for it last month. Turns out the Samsung Galaxy S8 is a terrific fix. She loves it.

Mine recently started having battery failures where the battery would be dead in under 10 minutes with little to no usage. Being my phone and not wanting to have to replace them both so soon. I've replaced my battery. I'm not sure if it's a long term fix or a bandage. But for now it's working and going most of the day with moderate usage.

Re: Battery Performance after Oreo 8.0 Update

2019-01-28, 22:15 PM

I tried this fix, it didn't work, just got worse and worse till it only worked when plugged in. Mine was over warranty. I changed battery and it was still draining quicker than it should. It also started not recognizing the sim card.  Then the Battery started not charging after 2 weeks. This is what worked for me finally. Removing the commserver according to the instructions in this link.

Re: Battery Performance after Oreo 8.0 Update

I have a z2 play I bought a year and a half ago.

I'm on 8.1 April 2018 patch.

Battery works strong as a champ.

Have dropped it in the snow, had it outside below zero Fahrenheit all day, no problems.

After about a year I reformatted and that made it much faster.

I don't want pie android 9 the reviews are terrible.

And I don't care about which security patch I'm on.

It is a smartphone.  Nothing it's used for is private or secure.

Re: Major Battery Drain After Oreo Update

2019-02-20, 6:53 AM

Hello I have a similar issue to the original post. Mine is not as drastic as his but just tonight I charged my phone to 70% and within 2 hours was at 10%, only had mild usage in those 2 hours. I am going to make sure that my account is updated hoping you might be able to help me as well.

I am tired of having to have to  carry a pocket charger with me just to get through the day.

Thanks

Kimberly

Well it worked briefly. Then the new battery bloated and popped my screen off after a month!! ???

New battery after 3 days I let it die till it turned off. It wouldn't charge so had to start it again using this weird method in link, where you get into the load up settings, restart bootloader, then it will recognize my sim card and charge. :( Hope this 3rd battery will be ok!!

Quickly discharge and heat up Moto zdroid xt 1650

2019-03-03, 7:19 AM

Dear sir

I bought MOTO z droid xt1650 in 8/2017 for 10000 EGP and from then to 8/2018 it was stuck, heating up and hang out too much but still working and suddenly it became discharging too quickly, I went to "RAYA" (your representative in Egypt) and they told me that I need to change the main board for 5000 EGP, then I Went to "Jovi Tronix Egypt" (another representative) and they told me that I have to change the motherboard and battery for 7000 EGP.

DO YOU BELIEVE THIS, A 10000 EGP PHONE GOT DEAD AND TO SAVE IT I HAVE TO PAY 50% TO 70% OF IT TO GET IT BACK?

How could this happen to have one year of lag of performance and after that I lose my 10000 EGP cell phone and have to put 50% to 70% of it to get it back.

We have here two opinions with two costs and both of them are too expensive and unlogic.

I'm sorry but this is a very bad experience despite the good reputation of MOTOROLA which encouraged me to buy this expensive cell phone hoping not to buy another one for at least 3 years.

I need a solution to this problem. What do you think?

Re: Major Battery Drain After Oreo Update

@Motorola - Stop marking these unsolved threads as solved!  Asking your customers to pay for repair/replacement is not a solution!

I have the same problem.  It was caused by system update and is unaffected by factory reset (even occurred during the initial setup).

Symptoms:

Phone shuts off in the middle of any activity, regardless of reported battery level.  Once off, it will not power on or detect any battery charge until plugged in.  Battery % changes erratically and drops fast.

For me, this started immediately after the system update to 8.0.0 but and once updated, it could not be reverted due to the locked bootloader.  I'm seeing countless other users with this problem.  Motorola needs to fix this or face a class action lawsuit.  Many of us are past warranty and still paying for the phone.

Re: Battery Performance after Oreo 8.1.0 Update

2019-04-13, 12:34 PM

Hello Motorola team,
can you please confirm first before releasing update for Oreo 8.1.0 if  it was actually tested especially for battery before it's actually got released ?

Also, the recommendation to do a factory reset, is this a confirmed resolution or just a work around, such as "maybe be it will work better".

Thanks.
