Re: Moto Z Erratic Battery Discharge/Phone Shutting Off

2018-06-15, 18:13 PM

Hi JayGatz25,

Thanks for sharing and for the screenshot. There are a couple things I'm thinking right now, that could cause this issue. Let's try to improve the battery performance of your device, I noticed that the Bluetooth and wifi are turned on at the same time, make sure to turn them off if you're not using it. These feature shares radio, so the longer they're enabled the more it will consume the battery. These go as well with your mobile network signal, the lower the signal, the more it will consume the battery. Try to uninstall third-party apps that you seldom use especially those apps that are crashing (Try doing it one by one until you noticed improvement).

I would suggest, we boot the phone to safe mode and observe it for a couple of hours.

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.
3. Touch OK when Reboot to safe mode appears
4. Phone will reboot and Safe Mode will appear in bottom left corner
5. If the issue does not remain in safe mode, this indicates a third party application installed from the Play Store is causing the problem.
6. Restart the device to get out of safe mode and uninstall any recently installed applications.
*** Begin by looking for specific application types such as launchers, task killers or anti-virus apps.

Let me know for any improvement. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich

Having same problem and its started to affect my turbo power battery pack. I cant see how a update of software could be that damaging to the battery and course all these symptoms. I will change the battery but won't hold my breath. Having to change all my chargers to fit the type c and moto / lenovo should look in to it reassuring there loyal patrons as many here been with moto since RAZR etc.

We returned both phones as warranty exchanges.  VZW has no clue as to cause or workaround,

My Moto Z has always drained kind of quick but lately its been worse and shutting off at any battery charge. It was 50% one day and shut off but said the battery was too low. I've gone through the troubleshooting with VZW warranty exchanges and the specialist's next option is to send me a new phone. I've had this one for almost a year so I'm disappointed with the decision to purchase this phone. I figure next year or so I'll just get a new phone that hopefully has a better reputation.

Motorola is notoriously in denial about issues with these Moto z. I already had my first one replaced at the cost of 150$ and now this phone is dieing with this battery issue. So they told me when they "replaced" it before that the warranty would be the original phone's warranty. I will never buy another Motorola product. Ever. The whole thing about the ringer coming on at 0 volume and slowly rising making me miss calls - a hardware feature that cannot be adjusted. DO NOT BUY A MOTOROLA PRODUCT!

Oh yeah...it's still not paid for. Never again, Motorola.

Re: Moto Z Erratic Battery Discharge/Phone Shutting Off

I have just gone through weeks of nonsense and excuses with Motorola in Canada.  They wouldn't even respond to my emails so I reached out through Twitter then suddenly got a call this morning from Emerson at Motorola.  They basically told me too bad, so sad, you are out of warranty, it will cost you.  I kept telling him to google the issue and he will find tons of posts about this issue that has been going on for quite some time now and it was really crappy of Motorola that they aren't willing to acknowedge the issue.  He also had the nerve to tell me that when I accepted the software update I was accepting responsibility for whatever may happen to my phone after the update.  Wow!  Really?  I guess it's time to fork out money for an early upgrade with Samsung this time.  The battery on this MotoZ sucks.  The same nonsense with shutting down at 30% or 50% and won't turn on unless you plug it it.  Yesterday it even went from 50% to 1% after I tried restarting???  Nice.  Great customer service Motorola.  I really liked the phone and was considering buying another MOD, but glad I didn't waste my money since the phone won't even work properly.

I have the identical issue.  Motorola will never acknowledge anything that is a problem with their hardware.  I found that Interstate Battery will replace the battery for $53, labor and tax included.  It's not a stocked item though so it takes 2-3 weeks to come in.  Mine is still on order.  Crossing fingers.  Anyone have success stories after replacing the belattery?  I am worried it is circuitry.  Definitely will never buy another Motorola/Lenovo phone.  F them, back.

I have read on here and other posts that people have replaced batteries and over time the same thing started happening again.  Very discouraging.  I am biting the bullet and going for an early upgrade through my provider and going back to Samsung.  I still have an S5 that functions that I use to stream SiriusXm through bluetooth for the backyard.  Too bad Motorola isn't willing to acknowledge because now I have a speaker MOD that is basically useless.  What a waste because the phone itself is great.
