Moto Z - Fm Radio

2017-02-17, 17:46 PM

It seems like there are a real move to get the carriers to turn on the FM Radio chipsets in mobile phones.

Yes, the Moto Z has a build in chip, but it needs to be turned on in order for you to receive FM radio signals OTA.

Well, since I dfo have the Unlocked US model (XM1650-03) - who should be able to turn this on. Although I use it on the T-Mobile network, and they are my carrier - is this suppose to come from my carrier or Motorola/Lenovo?

I installled NetRadio and it told me that the chip needs to be turned on for this to work!

Any ideas?

Likely it is something Motorola has to do in the firmware via an update.

ERror: Tuner API did not start or stop.

This device may need a kernel with a working FM Driver.

Have you tried this on your Moto Z? and does it work?

Thanks

No, I'm not a root user yet.
I do not want to lose my warranty unless it sure works :(

Thanks anywa.

Nope - back at OP post.

One need the Hardware enabled before you can use the FM chip - I am not interested in software that only works through WiFi only - that's not the point. I need the FM chip enabled, etc.

Thx

Still a question arises, if the Moto Z really have or supports FM Radio?

I think Motorola haven't embaded the chip, that's why it is not enhanced in the latest updates,...

Hi aquablue05,

Thanks for your question. Moto Z doesn't have a built-in FM radio. I will pass this along to our Product Review Teams.

Best regards,
