Moto Z data connection since 7.0 update

2017-01-22, 13:58 PM

Since the 7.0 update my MotoZ frequently loses the mobile data connection, the signal is ok but there's an exclamation mark next to it, this happens sometimes after the phone is idle for a while in an area where there is no wi-fi but it happens most frequently when leaving a wi-fi area when the phone should switch to mobile data the exclamation mark appears and there's no data connection.

When this happens the mobile data connection can be established by turning mobile data off and on again in the settings.

The problem never ocurred with the same phone, carrier and SIM before the 7.0 update.

I need a solution to this very soon or I'm just going to have to go and buy a different phone which is a shame because I've been happy with Motorola up to now.

Alternatively, can anyone tell me whether it is possible to go back to the old Android version and if so how to do it.

The phone was great before.

Thank you.

Hi jaffa68,

Sorry for what you just experienced. Does it happen to all wifi connection? Since you just updated your phone to the latest version, have you tried to do clear cache partition? This will help us clear all caches caused by the update.

Re: Moto Z data connection since 7.0 update

Maybe I replied too soon.

It happened again today, leaving work (wi-fi) I got the exclamation mark on the mobile data connection which persisted for several minutes and was then resolved by turning mobile data off and back on. I don't want to have to constantly fiddle with the phone to make it work - especially when I'm in the car.

I plan to pick up a SIM card from a different network and try that for a little while, if that fixes it I'll switch networks, if it still happens I'll have to get a new phone - Pixel I guess.

This is particularly frustrating because it worked before the Android 7 update and apparently there's no way to go back.

I'm having similar issues.

Worse is that the phone will not connect to wifi while inactive no matter what power/notification/optimization settings, so it'll lose connection, won't reconnect, and I won't be notified from then on.

Lenovo authorized an RMA, but I'm within my return period from my carrier - so I"m sending it back to the carrier.  Gonna try with Marshmallow, then again with Nougat.

FYI to anyone who has Wi-Fi/data connection issues since Nougat:

Very active thread here -- people on Nexus and other phones reporting similar problems.

Re: Moto Z data connection since 7.0 update

2017-02-06, 8:50 AM

It is clear that 7.0 related wi-fi, mobile data and bluetooth issues were well known in the Nexus/Google community quite soon after its release, much of this was supposed to have been fixed on those devices with 7.1.1.

It is frustrating that a month after 7.1.1 was released by Google (presumably with extensive release notes) my teriffic MotoZ was updated by Lenovo to the buggy 7.0 with no way to go back.

But sh*t happens and what's important is how Lenovo resolve the issue, a prompt update to the 7.1.1 code will give me confidence that they are serious players in the smartphone market anything less will prevent me from continuing to be a customer.

It is looking like Lenovo are not serious about updates and since I won't buy a skinned / heaviliy modified Android phone I'm going to be choosing between an iphone and it's Android clone the Pixel (a choice no straight man should be faced with), basically I'll have to decide which I dislike least.
