Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

2018-04-26, 21:00 PM

Well my phone just dropped to 84% in two hours from a full charge not doing anything .Accubattery shows no apps using the battery apart from itself.

I did inquire about a battery replacement from Motorola as an out of warrant repair and I got a quote of $160 so I'm not going to do that.

Going to see of I can a suitable after market battery and somebody to install it .

Keep in mind.. That $160 will fix everything and anything wrong with your phone, not only the battery.  I sent mine in, they also replaced my scratched camera, the camera glass, my chipped home button, my cracked screen, and some internal components as well.  The only thing that I could see was the same was the bezel, be as there were marks still on the corner that were always there.

Well I use their own online quote  system just for a battery replacement and it came to $160. I also forgot to mention my phone phone gets really hot at times was no obvious app running. Aside from the battery life there is nothing else wrong with my phone.

Hi, All.

We are sorry to hear about the ongoing issue that you have been facing.

If you have already tried calibrating your device battery, performed FDR without restoring any apps and observed, and tested your device in safe mode. If yet, you are facing the issue in regards to the battery then the next option would be service and repair.

You can also try these tips and tricks to keep your device battery optimum. Link: https://bit.ly/2FjqlS8

To calibrate the battery, hold the power button until the phone reboots > Plug into the supplied charger > Charge to 100% > Leave on the charger for at least an additional hour. This process will reset the battery table and allow the phone to calibrate -Rich

Note: Marking this post as solved, so that it can be found easily.

Thanks,

-Swaraj

So for the many folks who have done the full resets and confirmed the problem still exists in safe mode, you're saying that the 7.1.1 update physically damaged everyone's phone? That's your accepted solution? The 7.1.1 update also caused peoples' OTG to stop working from one day to the next and the suggestion from Moto was to also send the phone in for repair.

That 7.1.1 update really caused a lot of physical damage. /s

(in the OTG case, it would appear that one line is missing in a config file. It would seem you could fix that without making everyone send their phones in).

I want Lenovo to admin that eithe the 7.1.1-update destoryed the battery or that the battery is of bad quality and subject to premature failure.

There is something wrong with the device and Lenovo is responsible - even if they replac the battery for free within guarantee, we have a right to know the reason for the failure was.

One of my 2 Moto Z's (yes 2) went in for warranty service late last year (November) for a Bluetooth issue and when I got it back I was pleased to be informed that they replaced a number of components including the battery. The phone with the new battery has the same poor battery performance as the one that was never serviced .

This is a flagship phone. Your batteries are either improperly engineered or sourced or both. (Assuming it's a hardware issue)

Own the problem. Please .

I know that I am angry because I have 2 and I work with a guy who has one with the same issue. Pretty bad odds for a flagship device.

If it's software...fix the problem. If software ruined the battery...fix the problem and give us free batteries. If batteries were improperly sourced, engineered or even flawed... replace them for free.

I don't know what the issue is. I just know I have 2 phones...both just past warranty with one having a newer battery than the other. Same OS...same security patch level...both equally battery hungry.

I don't think I would be as angry if I just had the one...but I can clearly see with the 2 that there is an issue Lenovo should be addressing.

I have owned devices from other manufacturers and looks like I will be doing that again soon. By way of comparison, I have a Sony Xperia Z5 and the original battery lasts for days.

As someone who has held off from updating to 7.1.1 what a relief to learn that the problem of excessive battery drain now has a "solution". I can now confidently update from 6.0.1 happy in the knowledge that when my currently efficient battery starts to fail Motorola will simply replace it. I think I'll pass on that on that option until, if, an Android update can be shown to be non-injurious to my battery. Given the responses in this thread by Motorola's reps that's looking unlikely.
