Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

2017-11-01, 6:05 AM

I'm at the point where I think the phone stops accepting charge earlier than it should. It's like how Samsung put a cap on how far you could charge the Note 7 after the exploding issues. I wonder if this is some type of software constraint Lenovorola is testing to increase batter mod sales. I wouldn't be surprised. Even though it's not necessary since the battery was already underwhelming. I do believe we have a class action lawsuit on our hands.

Nope nothing changed in the update..the situation is the same still . it's just a security update..why are they even bothering with security when we can't even use our phones for most of the day..

So I've cleared my phone again, put on charger, installed SIM card, logged to my gmail account during setup, agreed to everything what was asked, installed android pay and learned one fingerprint. Rest was as it is out of the box, kept it on charger for some time to settle down. It was almost all the time on Wifi (except 1h).

After 27 hours (7mins os SOT) there is 6% of battery - this means that as advertised it can hold whole day on one charge!

BTW - I have i7+ now while waiting for update in moto. I have similar set of apps (plus some games which I'm afraid to run on moto) and it also holds around 24-30h - only difference is that I use it normally for calls, browsing web and probably have over 2h SOT. Even crappy nextbit robin can hold 2h SOT in 18 hours without problems.

Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

I posted yesterday, and I am going to keep posting with regards to the utterly poor performance of this device.  Today, I was unable to make it six hours before the phone ended up shutting down.  Worse still, I even shut the phone off in order to preserve what little battery life I was able to squeeze out of it.  As mentioned yesterday, I have already performed one factory reset on this device.  It worked for all of about a week.  Now, the device is performing in the same erratic manner, and it's only getting worse with every day.

Is resetting the device every other week our only answer??

Now that I am aware that other users of this device are experiencing the same difficulties as I am, it seems clear to me that the people at Motorola and/or Lenovo are aware of the problem.  What makes me wonder, though, is how many others out there are experiencing this same battery isssue.

I am hoping this can be addressed through software, and that the people at Lenovo are actually working on a fix.  However, if this is hardware related, maybe we can get some sort of replacement if, like in my situation, the one year warranty has now lapsed.

In the meantime, I am going to start bringing this issue to my carrier's (Verizon) attention.  I am not sure what they might offer as a remedy to this, but this really has become a problem.  I need a reliable and functioning device, and this phone is simply not delivering on what was promised.

Hopefully, this matter can be resolved in the coming days.  However, I am dead serious in seeking whatever legal remedy I may have available should this problem persist.  Nobody should pay a premium price for such a poorly functioning device.

I think that bad PR is best we can do - talk to some tech portals to perform review of phone with current SW, post reviews on YT, FB etc.

There are some famous phones who fail bend test - maybe it's time to nominate worst battery ever flagship?
