Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

2017-11-10, 12:45 PM

Post this forum URL to every tech blog when Motorola will launch the next product, warn people so they would not be the next victims.

This reminds me Samsung of last year.  They had terrible experience, but they were honest and shown progress they had made.  Well, if the battery explosion of Galaxy note 7 happened only one or two, they might ignored. But, people shared the same pain and raised their voice, that led the company the right direction.

Moto Z Battery Lasts Less than ONE HOUR!

2017-11-10, 15:05 PM

I have been using my Moto Z with an additional Incipio Powerpack battery all the time.  The overall two batteries performance became pretty weak. To isolate the problem I have stopped using the Powerpack battery.  No what I see is shocking.  The battery capacity shows as about 1.5 hour.  In fact the phone shuts down at about 50% battery capacty left, so it lasts less than ONE HOUR!

Any ideas how to recover out of this situation?

Android version = 7.1.1

Security patch = October 1, 2017

Model = Moto Z

Already tried to factory reset and clear app cache but the problem persists. It is impossible to use the Moto Z without the incipio powerpack.

Did someone had the same problem and managed to solve it?

Best regards

Weird thing happened today - my phone shut off by itself at around 50% and would not turn on showing that the battery is at 0% charge  [see the end of the first curve on the screenshot]. I charged it to 100% after that turned the phone on.  It loaded [and ... showed that it had only 45% or so charge [see the beginning of the second curve on the picture]!  I plugged it into the charger again until it reached 100%.

Same thing.. shuts down at around 40-50%, then shows that the battery is totally empty.  Being charged lasts only about ONE HOUR!!!

So, is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

1. Calibrate battery by charging to 100% and leaving in connected w/ phone off?

2. Factory reset?

3. Resinstall 7.1.1 from an external image?

4. Replace battery?

5. Wait till it is fixed?
