Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

Same Here.... when it gets belo 40% for me it just turns off, yellow triangle, won't boot.  Plug it in an it says 38% battery remaining...I mean, seriously.....  this IS NOT A HARDWARE ISSUE.... it began happening immediately after the 7.1.1 update, not a day or two after, like as soon as it booted 7.1.1.

Yes. I've had the phone shut off with 98% battery! Mine is always plugged into the wall, battery pack, or battery mod. Hoping 8.0 fixes this. And it's not just Moto phones. My friends with Samsung are having the same problem since the 7.1.1 upgrade. I've read that other brands are also having the problem.

Who are all these people with this claim. What are your credentials to support your statement. Read the forum and you'll find many examples of people who had the battery replaced and it fixed the problem. And still ran 7.1.1 afterwards with no issues. I also had mine replaced and it works as it's supposed to be so don't be telling people that changing the battery will not fix the problem unless you have something to back it up. And with the amount that resolved the issue that way... You don't

I speak for myself, with authority as I've been in the technology industry for 30 years.  You don't create a hardware problem by pushing a software update, period.  So for me.... who I'm speaking for..... that's what it is.  Good for you that you got your problem resolved.....

I can appreciate this being someone's area of experience, but it's not experience specific to this issue on this model.  I do not believe you've taken the code apart to find the flaw in the 7.1.1 update which causes this issue.   Your using previous experiences to create an assumption.  And if that work for you and your situation that's great, I've no issue with that.  But to tell everyone on here they that replacing the battery will do nothing, when there are several cases in this forum which illustrate it can (not one person said they replaced the battery and the problem continued) is doing a disservice to those looking for help.

I can see someone reading your comment while having a valid warranty claim, and then decide to not sending it in.  And so they continue to struggle with a useless phone without even trying something that's worked for many.

That's the issue I am raising with your post.

Fair enough, and understand your perspective.  That said, I have wiped my phone, rolled it back and the battery is fine so if someone can fix their phone by warranty'ing their battery, good for them.

Editorial: And my suspicion here is it's specific to some models (or lots of batteries) where the 7.1.1 is not reading the voltage or regulating it properly...hence it fixes it if you swap the battery even though it's not technically battery problem.  In either case Moto has been too tight lipped on the issue and its beyond frustrating......

I 100% agree with your last statement.  This thread is by far the largest, most read on the support forum... And nothing from them at all.  They aren't winning any fans with this issue

@JS88
Maybe you just had problem with battery drain from SW/apps side - in this case wipe or SW update might help.
This is possible what you mentioned about different lots/batches, but this means HW problem - you can check answers by Moto support team where they state: If wiping without using backup does not help you need to service phone. This seems that only service center can help - maybe by changing HW or doing calibration with service tools.

My phone is 3rd working day at "additional quality checks by Lenovo" after servicing. I will post info what they found as soon as I'll get it. Service centers here are not happy with giving replacement devices, but tend to fix it at least 3 times.

In the mean time I ordered HTC phone...
