Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

Have owned 2 Moto D's since Oct 2016...just over 1 year.

Both phones are having the same battery drain issues noted here: drains fast, turns off, can't last more than a few hours.....both phones! Both purchased same time.

I have had a Motorola since the Flip Razr! After spending this much money on these phones,  battery pack mods, and speaker mod, I am absolutely discouraged after reading this entire forum.  I'd like to see either a fix for the phone or replacement.   Without any resolution, I have lost loyalty with Motorola and will be looking to another phine brand......very disappointed!

Please......make this right!

At first i thought it is Motorola's issue because it is a motorola phone and then i thought it is a Google's problem because the update introduced this issue.

Now,After seeing news on Apple lawsuit on battery and Note 8 battery issues, I think at this point, makes me believe Batteries are the main culprits.

Most new popular phones are not coming with removable battery,I wish we had better choices.

I used to Love Note4 ,just flipping battery with ease.MIght go back to it.

Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

2017-12-31, 19:21 PM

So I been following the thread since my update and noticed instant change! I thought I was crazy at first but no! 43 pages of the same exact complication AND NO FIX!  This is out of hand! Bought this phone in January spending almost $800 not include phone case and protector and other things. Yet they won't even respond to anyone for months on end. This is just absurd!!!! 30 hr battery over my dead PHONE!

For that reason, I've purchased an i8+

I'm so *removed* tired of Android and the phones on it.

I wasted samsung, Galaxy Ace, s3, s4, Moto z, 5 sdhc class 10 memories of 8, 16 and 32gb SanDisk and verbatim, all burned by the phones.

And Lenovo never answered here a *removed* message... In the other hand, the Apple guys, helped me by chat to configure it..!! They were very polite..!

Nevermore I'm my life something with Android...

Ran a test over the weekend, put phone in safe mode and let it drain out...

After 4 hours and 30 minutes the phone shut down (had about 25% battery remaining)... I didn't touch the phone at all during that time.....  less than 5 hours, in Safe Mode, and no phone use during that period.....  Unbelievable.....

and so everyone is clear, I can roll my phone back (and have) and do the same test and my phone lasts for a day+ with all the apps loaded.

Chatted with Motorola and they gave Estimated Replacement fee : $150.00

Unbelievable, this could have been a 30$ simple fix if it had an option of replacing battery ourself.

"This is in regards with your phone that doesn't hold a charge, I'm sorry that you are having issue with the battery of your device but you don't have to worry we will be happy to provide option. Since you are done trying different chargers and also performing factory data reset we can just provide you option for replacement and just to set your expectation since the device is out of warranty there will be an out of warranty charge. Below is the option."

Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

I heard that recently Apple changed prices and will charge 29$ for replacing battery - so it can be done in "normal way".

I just got sms from service center that my repair will last longer because they had to order parts and are awaiting for delivery. This status was on their webpage one week ago, seems that someone has packed parts to backpack and goes by foot with them from China :(

I will wait till end of week and then start escalation. If there can be lots of media noise about few samsung phones with dead battery I think that hundrerds of Moto's can have at least similar attention...

As already reported the repair situation is the same in Germany. Brilliant move by Motorola. We're left with the options

a) live on with a totally crippled phone

b) send to service and wait for weeks due to parts shortage

Pure frustration, worse than any 99-dollar-cina-crap-phone vendor.

I've lost the faith in this brand. Not even remotely trying to get this issue under control. Very disappointing.
