Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

2018-01-05, 8:07 AM

I checked my phone's status and it's repaired, preparing for shipment.

Just to remind it was draining battery very fast (1h sot for 8h since disconnection), only once switched off around 30% of battery.

And list of parts exchanged:

ASSEMBLY,CAMERA,5MP,FRONT IMAGER
ASSY,BAT,LI POLY,GV30,LG CHEM 2760MAH 2.6AMP
ASSY,HSG,ACSTC CHAMBER, SHERIDAN
ASSY,LENS/DISPLAY, BLK, PRODN
DIE CUT,ADHES,BATTERY, SHERIDAN
DIE CUT,STIFNR,BATTERY, LONG, SHERIDAN
DIE CUT,STIFNR,BATTERY, TOP, SHERIDAN

You can see that battery was replaced...

Also display/camera assembly? Bit strange, but I suppose it could be damaged while disassembly.

And my friend's friend bought Moto Z few weeks later than me, his phone was holding battery for 2-3 days until one of updates came - now it's 8h. Hopefully he bought it at Amazon, so they will not repair but replace it.

Well.....given my warranty period expires in a few weeks, I decided to stop waiting for Google/Moto to fix 7.1.1 and called Warranty support.  Told Warranty Support about the battery drain problem since 7.1.1, said I cleared cache, ran in safe mode, and did a factory reset on the phone and nothing helped.  He then said they would replace it.  I'm in the US and he gave me two options:  send them the phone and they would send one back in 5 days, or pay $25 (and agree to a $200 credit hold) and they would send one out and I had 5 days after I got the new one to send the old one back.  Will see if the new phone is any better in a couple weeks........

Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

Same boat, same issues.. I have had this phone for exactly 1 year and 3 weeks. The 7.1.1 update rolled to my phone in November and ever since then i noticed my battery life degrade. I over the last month have found the phone is basically un-useable. It drains at an alarming rate, and then for no reason at all SHUTS OFF. I have tried EVERY single option that has been posted in these threads regarding this issue.. Im livid that a phone i have spent well over $600.00 dollars on is basically a brick in a year.. I have complained to Verizon on multiple levels to have them tell me it going to cost me MORE money to have it resolved.. I am now forced to revert back to my antiquated Samsung S5 that worked FLAWLESSLY for 2 years and still does after sitting in a box for a year with the battery still in it.

I, as im sure, most of you have had enough. I for one think that either Motorola/Lenovo or your phone carrier should have resolved this problem months ago.. I also think that this issue will eventually (and it should) end up on a docket somewhere with a class action suit, as the iPhone issue has recently.

Im truly tired of spending my money on crap lately and im really tired of being told its going to cost me more of my money to fix a problem I didnt cause...

When you get the new phone ( which I did while under warranty..same as you) check the version it comes with.

My new phone came with 7.0 and I've rejected the 7.1.1 since receiving it. My battery lasts 5 days! The only concern with doing this would be if you do anything financial on your phone. ( which I don't anyway) which could possibly leave you vulnerable to hackers.

Good luck and keep us posted. Hopefully they put  in an upgraded battery like some others were lucky enough to have received.

+1.

Paid $600 in November 2016 for this Moto Z, now I have to have it permanently tethered to an Anker battery pack otherwise it's bricked. Before Moto Z, had a Moto X. Just bought my wife a G5S Plus (before this happened).

Will never buy another Lenovo product again. Super surprised at the apathy on their side on this, offering no proactive software update to fix this, forcing people to try all sorts of things to fix on their own.

Buh bye Lenovo and I'll be sure to tell my 2,000 LinkedIn followers and 3,000 Twitter followers and anyone else who will listen.

Yup, It's the 7.1.1 update causing the issue. I would imagine any Android phone that gets it may have the same issues.
