Re: Moto Z - extreme battery drain after 7.1.1 update

No no no... as I said update just might be one of triggers, but not a root cause.

I'd rather link it to situation with latest Apple downgrading CPU speed when battery degradation occurs - this was done to avoid situations wiith switching off phones like many of people here have. Both solutions (to slow down or not to) still are related to handling poor battery quality - manufacturers can choose to sacrifive performance and avoid shutdowns (like apple) or do nothing and repair it under warranty (if applicable, if not you can have expensive brick).

New phone.....same story.  You couldn't make this up if you tried...so those of you that think this is a hardware problem this is my brand new replacement phone.  All I did was link my Gmail account and let the phone sit.  It was on wifi the whole time on this graph..  fire up that class action...

This is first cycle of new phone? If yes please do two full cycles and then report.

If it's not first then really a crap, like already used battery for some time.

You can speculate ,cycle and play with your phones all you want Tom...It's the **bleep** update!!!

My first Z (which I dropped) was fine as the 7.1.1 update was not issued.

The 2nd phone was perfectly fine until the update. Then the battery drain started and I lost Bluetooth function.

Rec'd 3rd phone while under warranty after complaining about the update issue. It came with 7.0 and I have rejected the update now for almost 2 months. Guess what? That's right...It's fine!!

This is so frustrating!! I feel like I'm attached to a cord all the time now!

My last 8-10 phones have been Motorola......I'm not even sure what phone to look at next! I fear spending $700-1000 on another problem phone that would only preform 1 year! Arghhhh!!

I have spent the better part of two days now involved with customer service regarding getting a replacement phone. I dont want another brick so i have been trying to get answers to where/how verizon gets there refurb phones from. The customer service folks have repetedly mentioned that verizon handles the reconditioning and repairs, the tech representitives tell me they are coming from the manufacturer and that verizon does a multipoint inspection of the phone prior to it being sent, I guess well see.....So,  Since im a month out of warranty and they have flat out repeately refused to issue me a new phone, for my 17yrs of "so called" loyalty to verizon, for $100 they agreed to send out a replacement phone..  With any luck it will come with whatever upgrade/updates needed to avoid this same BS...

Well, day two is much better than day 1.  Hoping a few drains/recharges improves it.  Still no where near life of original Moto on 7.0, but better than the old one.

As I said it's not 7.1.1 version of android - it's more likely update process itself. This does not change much, except that more updates == more broken batteries coming. Do not count on any fix by flashing Oreo IMO.

know one Moto-z which was bought together with my phone and is relly fine after installing all updates. I know another one which was bought few weeks later and was fine on 7.1.1 until one of latest updates happened - got same sh*t like I had where 1h sot and 8h since disconnecting a charger was everything what you can get.
