Screen burn in my Moto z

2016-12-25, 9:27 AM

So I recently got a Moto z just a month and a half back and I just noticed the lower buttons of the screen have burn into the screen a bit

Can this be fixed or should I get it replaced by the warranty?

And will this happen again with the new one?

There are screen burn in apps in the play store... maybe try one of those.

You are the first to report this, so no one can say if it will happen again or not. If you have the screen on all the time at a high brightness any phone can suffer temporary image retention.

I've been using my GSM Z exclusively for several months now, with no indication of any screen image retention.

I've found the screen to be plenty bright at 15-20% (based on the slider position), so that may be why.

Regards.

Visible burn in after 2 months

2017-08-22, 14:22 PM

Hi,

I bought my Moto Z in the middle of June, it's August and I already have burn in I can see on lower bar with on-screen buttons. Became visible yesterday.  Might be a bit hard to spot on those pictures but it's there (again, just an early stage).

I'm aware there is such thing as AMOLEd burn in but never exepcted that to happen so suddenly. Getting 2 months of good condition out of a flagship phone is rather ridiculous. It's a brand new phone I got off german Amazon.

Is this what I should expect from any AMOLED display with 1 charge/day use scenerio or do I have a defective unit and it should last much longer? I need a functional phone for at least 30-40 more days for a project I'm working on, I'm just hoping it won't fail completely till then.

moved to an existing thread.

Since we only had one other complaint since december of last year, it doesn't seem to be a wide spread issue.

I have used and charged my Z daily, and i don't have an issue. Looking at your pictures, I am unsure of what you are trying to show.

Try this picture then. It's my on-screen buttons area while displaying blue image fullscreen (from YT).  There is a lighter stirpe there, with home and recent apps buttons being darker. If I've shown you this phone in real life you could clearly see the difference there.

My only question now is can this be fixed under warranty repair, if it's not normal for this phone? I'm assuming this will only get worse over time, so I guess it'll get more obvious there is a problem.

OK, i see it when i zoom in.

Have you tried any of the free apps that excercise the pixels to reset them. If it were me, I would certainly try that before going any kind of repair route.

If you want it repaired, then contact Moto Germany (i think you said that is where you bought it) or Moto for whatever region this phone is supposed to be sold in, and they can help you with warranty claims.

I'll run one of those apps tomorrow. I thought those only help with LCD retention since AMOLED burns out permanently.

If that doesn't help I'll send it to Motorola service. Thanks!

Re: Screen burn in my Moto z

I've tried to wash away the screen burn-in on my Moto Z by leaving the "wash app" on during several nights... they don't seem to work very well since the burn-in still shows very clearly.

I wish there was a function to invert the color on both the notification- and navigation bars.

This is what my screen looks like...
