Re: 5G Moto Mod Available Today for Discounted ($50) Preorder

There are two sides to that. The RF output power on LTE is way lower than that from the phone's own radio, so you definitely won't be boosting your coverage. The only real benefits will be 3.5 GHz LTE capability (short range band for extra capacity in dense areas), and that it can stack more channels, but either is only if they are deployed in your market.

Hey SAWig-1, when I am wrong, I will admit it.  And I was.  After talking with yet two more agents, I find you are correct, and I cancelled my order.  Who would have imagined you had to pay for a service you weren't receiving?  That's VSW I guess.  Well, at least I am getting a new Z3 today.

You can't use the 855 in the mod for processing. The mod connection pins do not provide a fast enough interface to work as a CPU bus, even for coprocessing operations. It's not even 1/10 the speed it needs to be.

Basically, the 5G mod is a phone without a display. It takes over all the functions except application processing, display output, and touch input. When it powers up, it boots its own mini (not user accessible) operating system that controls its operations.

As long as there's no early termination fee I'm still going to wait and get mine then switch back to something cheaper. Being an RF engineer this device is very interesting to me.

I'm interested in purchasing the 5G mod. I live in downtown Chicago where Verizon's 5G network is supposed to go live on April 11th and have a Moto Force Droid Z2. Unfortunately, I missed the $50 promo. If anyone is having second thoughts and would like to sell theirs (when they receive it) please pm me.

Thanks
