Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

Seems like the new Pie update breaks the encryption key for an encrypted SD card.

I've been only able to rescue a few of my previous files from the card.  It's annoying that there is no way to protect the encryption key during the update - especially since the main storage files remain intact.

If the encryption key for the SD card was lost, you would not be able to access any data on the card.

Keep in mind that cards adopted or encrypted tend to have a higher failure rate, so a backup of card data is even more important then if the card is not encrypted.

Re: Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

The encryption key was definitely lost.  I didn't remove the card at all, and the update asked me to format it for use.

Unfortunately, my work policies require me to have an encrypted phone, otherwise I wouldn't have done it.

Ok, now the phone is in a "Format SD card" loop.

The system stops at 20%, says it's done, but repeats the error.

Re: Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

Apparently, the only way to use the SD card is as adoptable storage? 😒

Shame, as I had the card used as portable storage until now.

Re: Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

On occasion I've had to format Micro SDcards on my PC/Laptop to get them to work in my phones either using windows format or a free 3rd Party program.Just one of those things sometimes. Some makes/models of cards seem to react differently  :/

Re: Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

Tried formatting on my PC... Didn't work in letting me make it portable storage.

The phone let me make it adoptable, and I tried to switch to portable before swapping apps and such.  That didn't work either.

Re: Moto Z3 update encrypted SD card issue

Could you successfully format on pc? If not the card may be corrupted.
