Re: Z4 case compatible with Moto Mods?

I used the same black with green speckles case that you guys posted in the thread. Thankfully I do have insurance through Verizon so it was $99 deductible. It was broken from the plastic on the front edge, not the side, so I don't know if the felt option would have helped me.

Darn! I sure do hate that. You're right. The felt wouldn't have helped that.

Thanks for the info and the pics! I'll have to get some of that felt stuff!

No, you are correct. I left that bottom rubber piece on the back of the bumper on. If I switch mods I just bend it back a bit and I'm able to easily get the mod off and switch it to a different one. Maybe I should have cut it off though? It might be easier to switch mods. Hmm.

No problem!

Gotcha. If I left the rubber on I would hang it on something I'm sure. Yes, on the last case that I modified, I actually used a knife to cut the bubber perfectly straight before I removed the plastic piece. That gave it something to bare down on. The first 2 I modified, I cut with scissors after peeling the plastic off and they aren't striaght. Live and learn I guess. LOL!

Hoping that Verizon gets a proper bumper.

Hey nice idea for cutting off/removing the back lip of the bumper! I bet it is super straight with that method!

I'll try that should I ever need or want another one (a different color at some point maybe? Lol).

I still need to get some of that stick on felt too! Do you happen to know where your wife got that? Could I find it at like a craft store? Or is it more of a hardware store kind of thing?

Thanks for all your help and good ideas!

It is but my first two aren't straight, lol. She said it is in the craft section in Walmart.

I wanted to offer an update now that I've used the aluminum bumper a few day. The aluminum bumper has felt strips as well. It does reduce signal by one bar overall, which can be problematic in low signal areas, but it looks and fits great.

Also, as a sidebar, I have a Z2 Play bumper I ordered in error a year ago... It fits but needs a cutout added to the top left edge for the speaker and one hold for the bottom microphone. I'm gonna mod it up as a backup to the aluminum bumper.

I like the metal case. There are three issues though.

I lose one bar of signal strength when it in on the Z4. Don't know about the BlueTooth signal.

I had to change out the device holder on my ProClip cell phone holder in my Wrangler. It has to be a little wider to get by the fastener on the bottom side of the case which makes it less secure in the holder.

There is a cell phone pocket on my favorite pair of cargo shorts that use to hole the Z4 just right. It's a no-go now.
