Re: Z2 Force Screen a Disaster

"See solution above. Moto is planning some option to address this."  Not sure about anyone else but I don't tend to consider the act of planning some option to be a solution.  A solution would be more along the lines of actually having a fix for the issue and a clear path to deliver said fix.

Do we have any indication of what Motorola will be charging to replace the outer lens?

Hi stanleywinthrop,

We're working to announce a repair option in the coming weeks. Just some details to work out - stay tuned.

How many weeks does "in the coming weeks" include?  Looks like it's been 8 so far.

Let us know when a solution is found.

The harsh reality is that there is no solution and from a couple articles I found online it appears as though there will not be a solution:  http://pocketnow.com/2017/08/01/whoops-no-shattershield-replacements-for-moto-z2-force.  I would also say, at this point, that the continued silence is an answer in and of itself.

Re: Moto Z2 Screen Scratched Screen

Well that's sad.

I really want to like the Moto Z2 as I'd like to see customizable hardware (aka moto mods) become a more common feature in the marketplace. Alas the screen of the Moto Z2 is a FAIL.

The reality is that any factory replacement option (paid or free) while nice, doesn't really solve the problem. I am not going to send my phone away for weeks (or even days) to have a cosmetic issue fixed however anoying. My phone is something I use every day and the switching to a different phone is non-trivial.

I've had phones (some as cheap as $75) with plastic screeens before and they don't need a screen protector if you treat them nicely. However using the Moto Z2 for any period of time without a screen protector will incur some level of damage. Yes there is a warning in the documentation, but that's just not enough, consumers do not expect todays devices to only be fit for use after a third part accessory has been installed.

The only sensible option is to pre-ship the phones with a removeable screen-protector and make replacement screen protectors available as accessories. Consumers can then use the pre-installled screen-protector and replace with an third-party screen-protector if they desire (e.g. if they prefer glass to plastic).

As for those of us caught in the middle - with damaged screens. The only option that would make me happy is if Motorola offered to ship me a complete replacement phone and a return shipping label. Then I could spend a few days setting up the new phone and return the damaged phone. They are then free to refurbish and resell the original phone.

However I expect that Motorola would prefer to lose me as a long term customer and probably lose the market to Samsung and Apple rather than cover the expense of making existing customers like me happy. I'm willing to be pleasently surprised though.

The only option at this point in time is to pay Moto $49.00 and ship the phone back to them.  You will be without your phone for 5-7 days but you will have a shiny new shatter shield once you get it back.

That's ridiculous for a phone that's only a couple of months old, the scratches, I understand shouldn't be warranty, but the peeling is UNACCEPTABLE

Yep, I agree but that is the reality of customer service this day in age.
