After upgrade to Android Pie, Camera and Proximity sensor not working.

2019-11-14, 8:40 AM

Just upgrade my OS to Android 9 (albus-PPS29.133-30).

The "Moto camera" got black screen only. (But Google camera working good).

When I get incomming call, Screen comes to black too.

I use device test to test my device.

The camera working fine but fronet proximity sensor did not respond.

What can I do to fix it?

Hi DrBenson,

I appreciate your post. I'd like to help, though I wouldn't say it's due to the upgrade let's first try sorting this out.

*Make sure all apps are up to date in the Play Store.

*Try clearing the app's data (Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear Storage)

*Test the camera and the proximity sensor (Moto Help app or Device Help app > Diagnosis > Hardware Test > Camera > Proximity Sensor)

*Make sure you're waving your hand over the top area part when testing the proximity sensor

Perform a full factory data reset without restoring apps/backup. It is important not to reinstall any third-party apps before testing all these behavior.

Factory Data Reset:
Settings > System > Reset options > Factory Reset
*Backup your important files before doing the reset so you won't lose them

Let me know if that helps. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich

Did you get an official update (over the air) or did you do a forced update of some downloaded firmware?

Thanks

  1.  Offical stock rom update by PC. In update process it already wipe all data to factory reset.
  2.  Try to test by app at Moto Device Help on device diagnosis. Result: everything working find but  proximity sensor bad. (Showing on screen-shot as below attached.)
  3.  On Google Camera working good. But Moto camera always blank screen. Also other Apps require to use camera are working too.

Thanks for reply.

All apps are update to latest version from Google Play.

I install Google camera personal (download from APKMIRROR).

Moto Camera is beneficial on Moto Z2 play, it's better then Google Camera.

Unfortunately the Moto camera won't work.

I'm worried because there is no official Pie firmware for your area, only for Brazil. Some sources have taken this and developed a generic firmware for other markets but it is in no way official and it is already known to cause random problems. My recommendation is to treat it as experimental and expect support only from the sources that developed it. That is until an official firmware upgrade becomes available by Motorola through OTA.

Do the factory reset, it's always the first step when problems appear.
