Does Nexus 6 have Wireless Charging built in?

2015-03-21, 7:01 AM

I have read that the Nexus 6 has Qi Wireless Charging support but does that mean it's built in or do I have to go buy something to attach to back of phone?

Yes, it is built in. That also means that you still have to buy a charging dock/pad. I know that sounds obvious, but I don't want anyone to think that it comes with everything you need for wireless charging. The hardware needed in the phone is there. The user is required to buy the external hardware needed to make use of the wireless charging. Hope this helps.

I would like to have anyone who uses wireless charging chime in . Does it work if you have a case on the phone? Or no chance it needs to be bare back? I would love to know the answer to this.

If not I may just have to TOFTT. and find out. Any suggestions' on the good the bad and the ugly chargers to try and buy?

It really depends on the charger. I have a TyltVu and it will work with a case on it. It is also very easy to use. There is no trying to find the right spot with it. You set the phone in any place on the charger and you are good to go. The Tylt is a little spendy, but it is worth it in my book. Hope this helps.

I keep a Ringke Slim on my N6, and with one of my Qi chargers (a cheapie, and it's a small circular one) it can take a little fiddling to find the best spot to get it charging.

Frankly I think getting another Turbo Charger is a better investment.

I have a Nokia Qi charger, with a spigen (SP?) case on my Nexus 6.  Works fine.

Here's a recommendation for a wireless charger. I did quite a lot of research and finally purchased the RavPower Wireless Charging Pad w/5000 mAh integrated battery pack. It is a useful size, being only about an inch shorter in length than the Nexus 6. The indicator lights tell you what you need to know (they are visible when the phone is lying on the charger), and finding the "sweet spot" is really easy. Both the charger and the phone emit an audible signal.

The RavPower also ships WITH the adapter and USB cable, which, I've discovered, is not always the case with every brand. The charger also interacts well with the phone. There is some warmth when charging, but as soon as the phone is fully charged, the current slows down to a trickle, and the phone is cool to the touch when I pick it up. Now I just leave my Nexus on the pad on my desk and always have a full "tank" ready to go when I head out.

Currently priced at $25.99 (with free shipping if you have Amazon Prime), I believe this is one of the major bargains around. As an added bonus, I can charge my Moto 360 on it.
