ACPI issues on L420 under 64-bit Linux

2012-12-15, 1:58 AM

Hey everybody,

I have had quite a few issues when trying to run any 64-bit Linux distro on my Thinkpad L420 because it would get stuck in the boot process. Fortunately, some BIOS update (I believe it was 1.17) fixed this for me (see this thread).

But now I am facing other problems, one of them being that upon initiating a shutdown on my system (regardless of the method, be it via the graphical interface or command line using shutdown) it performs a reboot instead. Stand-by and reboot fail as well, rendering the system unusable by presenting a black screen, forcing me to halt the system completely.

This happens on any distro I have tried (Debian and Ubuntu based as well as Fedora and ArchBang). I have also tried all stable kernels up to the latest (3.6.10 as of now). I am also on the latest BIOS (1.20 from about two weeks ago).

Did anyone have a similar issue? If so, could you fix it? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

This is my hardware:

- Intel Core i5-2540M Processor (2,6 GHz, 3 MB L3-Cache)

- Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset with integrated Intel HD Graphics

- 8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3-SDRAM 1.333 MHz SODIMM

- Bluetooth 3.0
- ThinkPad b/g/n

- 500GB HDD at 7200rpm

PS. Windows 7 runs just fine.

Anyone? Is there a chance that this will be fixed in future BIOS releases?
