To enable the ATI drivers for Desktop Effect after installing the ATI video drivers, do the following:
- Restart your system and get into BIOS.
- In the BIOS Setup Utility window, select Config and then Display.
- In the Display pane, do the following:
- Select Graphics Device, and switch to Discrete Graphics.
- Disable Operating System (OS) Detection for Switchable Graphics.
- Press F10 to save the configuration settings and exit BIOS. During the procedure, the message Save configuration changes and exit now? displays. Select Yes. The configuration changes will be saved and the system will restart.
- After the system restart, log in as root.
- Back up the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
- Open a terminal.
- In the terminal window, type init 3 at the command-line prompt to switch to runlevel 3. 9. Log in as root and type the following commands at the command-line prompts:
#ldconfig
#aticonfig --initial
#sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx
- Click OK in the pop-up window.
- At the command-line prompt, type init 6 to restart your system for all the latest changes to take effect.
Note: The computer cannot be suspended and hibernated after the Desktop Effect is enabled.
