Hello... I am planning to buy the Yoga 720 15...
Besides the trackpad issue, does Ubuntu 16.04 work with this laptop? I use ext mouse anyway...

Thanks!!

Yes, I've managed to install Ubuntu 16.04.2 on the 15IKB model (needed to change SATA mode to AHCI).

Touchscreen works & active pen, also audio and video. I would have liked to see support for Yoga 720 in tp_smapi.

To be honest I wish I had gone with a Dell machine with official linux support (any increase in price is quickly mitigated when counting the hours needed to fiddle with drivers etc.). Not having a functioning trackpad is frustrating.

Thank you bjodah for your reply. Have you tried second screen support in Linux?

So in summary, everything works besides touchpad...

I am still a little hesitant regarding this laptop. I am a university professor, and pen support + linux (cuda enabled for machine learning) would be a great combination for me. If the Yoga 720 does not have good support for Linux, would have to choose another laptop without pen (that would be a shame :( ).

Thanks again,

MG

I've got exactly the same problem here, no touchpad is a real deal breaker...

I also found some bug reports to this problem:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1446365

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1700657

Thats really annoying, maybe Lenovo could help to solve this problem?

Thanks jacklost815 for sharing your experience in this post. It encouraged me to take the risk to buy a Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB from Argentina. It was because of your shared experience that I chose to take the chance and I'd to let you know and everyone else here that I'm writing this reply from my new brand Lenovo with a Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04 dual boot install. I hope this helps as jacklost815's reply helped me.

Cheers from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Allright, Touchpad on my Lenovo Yoga 720 15" is working. Add the patch from this thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1700657 answer #18. Recompile kernel, Restart and the Touchpad is working. So hopefully the patch will as fast as possible add to the mainline so we hopefully dont need compile always a new kernal is roll out.

Sorry for my english

Yes it works, this is the reason why i wrote it. Download Kernel source, edit the file and make the changes u see in the #18 answer of the bug report from the link, compile it and use it. So google a little bit how to compile and install u own kernel in arch and u are done.

Sorry for my english

I did recompile the kernel with the patch, however my touchpad is still not working. The intel_lpss_pci is loaded  though...

Is there any more troubleshooting I should do before getting it to work ?
