Re: Install linux in Lenovo Yoga 720?

2017-09-29, 3:45 AM

I have been reading through this thread at least 5 times by now but I honestly do not know what to do. When you say, "grab the kernal source", do you mean the command "sudo apt install linux-source" or are you referring to git cloning the linux/torvald repo and manually changing the one line in there that needs to be changed? But if that is the case, where would I place this file?

I have looked through linux-headers-4.1.0-28 && 35 -generic files and linux-source-4.4.0 and I cannot find the intel-lpss-pci.c#L224 file anywhere so I assume that it isn't there.

I know that I have something very wrong in my understanding and was hoping that you could point it out.

Did you install this on a 13 or 15? On a 15, the trackpad still does not work. I have also compiled the module with the changes noted in the Git repo, and installed, without resolve.

Re: Install linux in Lenovo Yoga 720?

Hello I tried for several hours to install ubuntu on my PC without success.

I created a bootable key with the rufus software but when I want to try to launch ubuntu I get a black screen but the pc seems to work.

I tried Ubuntu 16.04,16.10 and 17.10 but none of them work.

I created a free 20 gb partition in my hard drive, I passed my RAID bios to AHCI but despite jacklost815 post and others I can't get ubuntu on my 720 yoga.

Here is the model: I got a Yoga 720 13", i5-7200u, 1080p display, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD model from Amazon.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

If you are getting a black screen and are posotive you are selecting the correct boot device, you may have a bad ISO and/or USB write. I would download the ISO and try rewriting the USB drive and possibly trying a different USB as well.

I have a little trouble with English and boots / linux it's new for me so thank you for helping me.

For the USB stick and The iso I tried several times with different keys and different iso (this installation was an exercise in class) and my teacher advised me to wait for a new version of ubuntu but apparently it is possible to install ubuntu on my yoga 720.

It is definitely possible. Take it into class and have your classmates or teacher give you assistance. Try downloading Fedora and using the built in USB creation tool and see what happens.

Now it's too late and my teachers are not very available so I'll try to see how to use Fedora.

Sorry For Double post but I must point out that when I select the key, the boot menu appears and when I start the test, the black screen appears. ANd fedora is an OS my teacher is asking me to install Ubuntu if I can .

Re: Install linux in Lenovo Yoga 720?

Hello,

I have the same problem with getting Ubuntu to run despite following all the instructions here. I can get into the grub menu where I can choose how to start Ubuntu but when I do the screen turns black, even though the USB device still has power and the laptop is running. I've tried various sticks and have formatted the USB stick as MBR for BIOS/UEFI, but the result is always the same.

I've tried:

- manipulate boot options to nomodeset, acpi=noirq

- updated bios to 2.03 (all security functions turned off)

- switched to AHCI

Any ideas what else to try? Maybe it's something with the graphics card?

I also tried everything on my side (helped by a teacher and the doc. ubuntu-fr. org website).

However, I still have a black screen. My processor thinks it may be linked to the graphics chip. I need some help, thanks.
