Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

Hi Anatoly,

I discussed that with smart guys in czech Linux forum and they gave me two advice:

1) Here are boot switches, which could help to go further.

xforcevesa nomodeset noapic noacpi nosplash irqpoll i915.modeset=0

2) Here are switches for boot output in details - it may show you boot info instead of black screen.

debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=efi,keep log_buf_len=16M

Please try that and let us know, if it helps.

Pavel

Сan you tell me please, how can I set up it(I'm just linix user, and I'm not so familiar with it)?

Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

Hi Anatoly,

try to boot Ubuntu and choose option "Try without installing" (I mean just with arrow on the external keyboard) and press F6 and write the parameters.

Sorry for the delay. I am just very busy and tiredSmiley Sad

Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

Hi,

waiting for news ;-)

You could also try the very latest Kerner version. (Find a distrib that includes it live)

Thanks

Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

hi,

I (partly) successfully could boot current ubuntu (16.04), following my steps and first impressions:

- Via an usb-hub I connected a keyboard and an usb-stick with the installation-image of ubuntu 16.04

- I had to change the BIOS settings to "secure boot" disabled.

- afterwards, i simply booted from the usb-stick, without entering any parameters to the grub bootmanager

- the kernel loaded (funny, it is rotated -90°)

- live-system (fully running xserver, had to rotate by +90°) came up

- the halo-keyboard - as expected - did not work, but was detected as big trackpad (perhaps the wacom-drivers found it)

- (glass)touchscreen does not work

- wlan was not detected

- screen brightnes was not changeable

my conclusion: it shouldn't be impossible to use the yoga book with linux. If some experts have a look at the drivers for wlan and the keyboard...

Also if some techies from lenovo read it: perhaps you can give us some hints, how the halo-keyboard (switching between wacom-tablet and keyboard, etc) works?

(If anyone wants the output of dmesg, lspci, etc. let me know!)

best regards...

Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

For WiFi, I suppose you need to install this :

sudo apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

If you already have it, try this and paste your result :

sudo dmesg | grep iwl

Re: Lenovo yoga book - Linux

Hi okflo,

thanks for giving linux a try!

The issues you ran into remind me of similar experiences with other x86 tablets as reported by techradar: Install Linux on your x86 tablet: 5 distros to choose from  (Feb-2016).

Some of the issues seem to be common with atom-based tablets/netbooks; they started off with an USB WLAN plug but even got the built-in WLAN and touchscreen working with some distro.

Good luck with your further tries!

Pinging again. Any progress with Fedora 25 or Ubuntu 16.10 or 17.04?
