Re:Linux: Fn-keys not working - Thinkpad E14 AMD Gen 2

2020-09-25, 12:25 PM

Thanks for this,

I tried your solution but doing via crontab does not trigger the Fn keys to work.

Only

sudo rtcwake -m mem -s 2

in my user session brings the FN keys functional.

Thinking to execute a script after user login...

Running Kubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.8.x

!!! EDIT !!!

after other tests the correct way to do it on *ubuntu is:

1 - edit root crontab

sudo crontab -e

2- add this line at the end of the file

@reboot sudo rtcwake -m mem -s 2

3- save the file and reboot => FN keys should work after reboot

It seems latest Fedora kernel 5.8.12 is working now. See https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/j4i11q/fedora_finally_working_with_e14_gen2_ryzen_5_4500u/

Can others please try this and report back the results?

Not working for me on E14 Gen 2 4700U model with 5.8.13-300.fc33.x86_64 right after boot, still needs the suspend/resume cycle workaround.

Kernel 5.8.14 on Arch and still not working. I would be very surprised if a kernel update will fix this...

Same problem here.

Using Ubuntu 20.04 and had to update the kernel to version 5.8.0-25-generic to make the suspend-function work.

I also need to suspend once every time the computer boots up, to be able to use the Fn-Keys. Very disapointing, because, apart from that, I really love my new PC.

I really hope that this gets fixed, as more and more people are trying Linux nowadays.

I have Lenovo E14 Gen 2 and also experiencing issue with Functional keys not working till suspend happens.

Cedjo workaround works fantastic. Although would be great to have also update in next version of Bios

I am running POP_OS 20.10 and when I use the crontab hack all seems to be well with my E14 Gen2 AMD. Pretty impressed with this machine.

Hi there,

is anyone of you also experiencing this (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and-Edge-series-Laptops/Thinkpad-E14-Gen-2-AMD-freezes/m-p/5052090) strange freezes with the E14?

And has someone tried to update the bios to the newest version? It is straightforward with linux?
