Hello and welcome,

If and when the X1 Extreme gets added to the LVFS site, that will probably be the simplest way to go. Doesn't look like it's there yet:

https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist

In the meantime there are a couple of other options:  the bootable CD image + an external CD drive, or a bootable flash drive using the tool provided in the Windows BIOS update exe.  That will require Windows - either on another machine or in a VM.

You know what, I enabled the discrete display option in the BIOS (after upgrading to the latest again).

It was the MOST horrid and bad user experience I have ever had with a laptop.

The display was clunky and slow - extremly slow. Updates were taking seconds. When I say "updates" I am talking about transitions between states - for example to login and load the new screen - when I open a new application - seconds watching it gradually change, until it was visible.

I strongly recommend any Linux users stay away from these Lenovo laptops - considering these laptops are the top of the line for Lenovo - it is really very terrible.

Hi @yiyong

I'm afraid I don't have an X1E2, but I do have the P1G2 that is my daily driver and is similar (albeit a different Nvidia card).

I recommend updating your Ubuntu install to 20.04, there are a lot of fixes that have gone upstream for the open source Nouveau driver and the proprietary Nvidia driver that you will want to pick up. They went in around 5.8 so if you just want to update your kernel you can do that too but 16.04 is getting quite old :)
