Linux on T495

2019-07-10, 17:40 PM

Hello,

I bought a new T495 this month and when it arrived I installed Linux on it. I installed Pop_OS 19.04 which is a distro based on Ubuntu, which from what I have found on the Lenovo website (https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201905-27049/) it states that this laptop should be compatible with Ubuntu.

I'm having problems to make my fingerprint reader work on Linux (I tested on Windows and on my BIOS it is working), so it appears to be a driver problem. After a few days of searching the internet to find anything that is related to fixing the fingerprint on this model I'm exhausted :(

Can someone help me with this problem?

Here's the info I think might be useful:

The new fingerprint drivers for Linux are in the works. Lenovo is working with Ubuntu, Redhat and Synaptics to get a working driver, as of today fingerprint is not working for Linux on modern systems.

Will it also be useful for 06cb:009a?

The community needs this driver. I bought the X1 Carbon 6th Gen (finger print device ID 06cb:009a) with the assumption that it will be fully compatible with Linux since it has support at the BIOS level. Any updates on the driver are welcome so that we know it's coming and people are actually working on it.

Dear Dave,

any news on this one? Your post is from 9 months ago, still nothing happened. Reverse engineering might take some time, but in cooperation with the manufacturer writing a driver should be a walk in the park I'd guess.

Dear Dave,

you're right, sorry, seems I mixed up dates. Since beta of RHEL 8.1 is already available since end of July this is really good news,

Is/was Lenovo aware that these fingerprint readers have been certified by Ubuntu?

Hello Dave,
are there any updates on Linux driver? Maybe there is some way we can monitor the progress by ourselves and not ping you every time?
