Re: Linux on T495

My post was only 2 month ago, update is Redhat hopes to have this in RHEL 8.1 time frame I have not heard back from Canonical for Ubuntu

Sorry for writing one more time, but I'm afraid I didn't tag you properly. Please point us to somewhere, where we could check the progress for ourselves.

I think this is unrelated to the RHEL topic but I have been following these two sources:

The guys over ar libfprint are working on implementing the Fingerprint readers of the newer Lenovo models in the Linux library code. AFAIK this will be available in many Linux distributions.

As far as I have read, much of the work is already done but the change isn't finished yet.

Just to confirm what czo02 said - there is still some ongoing work to support this device but it is moving along:

 - the links pointed to the merge requests for libfprint (and there is a matching one for fprintd you also need). My understanding is these are progressing along and hopefully will complete soon.

- Synaptics also need to release updated firmware. They are still testing it and it's not ready to release yet. My understanding is that it's in the final stages (though I unfortunately don't have an ETA).

Any news on this? Unfortunately on Fedora 31 the fingerprint still does not work.

Hardware information regarding the fingerprint:

Bus 004 Device 006: ID 06cb:00bd Synaptics, Inc.

This is on a T495s.

The latest information in the GitLab issue (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/issues/181) indicates that the firmware update required to get this working is forthcoming.  After that, it's up to the libfprint maintainer for Fedora to update the package.

Dear Mark, Do you have any updates on 06cb:009a? I see that support for 06cb:00bd has been implemented. Flagship X1 Carbon (6th gen) still is unsupported though since it comes with fingerprint 06cb:009a. Many developers including myself get the X1 Carbon any updates are welcome.
