R30 Xbuntu Linux install only yields 800x600 screen

2008-08-12, 4:45 AM
Installing Xbuntu 8.04 on my R30 ThinkPad only results in 800x600 screen resolution, not the 1024x768 I know it will do. Where do I find Debian-derived video drivers for the R30 ? Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question...have you tried Thinkwiki and Ubuntu forums to see whether someone else had reported this issue?

Another place to search would be Mr. Bill Morrow's ThinkPad Forum (http://forum.thinkpads.com)

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Sadly, ThinkWiki has nada, Ubuntu forums are locked and not accepting posts (why, I dunno), and the ThinkPad specific site was a dry well

Yep, I could see this being a somewhat peculiar issue...have you tried another distro, to see if the things would change? I can tell you that I've run Mint on R31 (as a "live" disk though) and it was working in 1024x768, no questions asked.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Mint 8.04.1 also appears in 800x600 in LiveCd mode....

Have you tried adjusting the resolution manually in Mint?

BTW, What's 8? The last one I know of is 5...

This is the exact one I ran on R31 with no issues:

Good luck.
