RHEL 6.2 x86_64 Workstation on T520 works without issue

2012-01-13, 20:55 PM

I just thought I would report that I am successfully using RHEL 6.2 on my T520 without any apparent issues.

I was hesistent to use RHEL and instead was using Fedora 16 - mostly because I figured I would need Fedora so that all the devices would work.  Using Fedora I was having problems with the display "freezing".  I had the problem whether I left Optimus enabled (using the Intel Display Adapter) or configuring the BIOS to use only the Discrete and loading akmod-nvidia.  Either way the display would lock up - where I could move the mouse, but not be able to click on anything.

So - I bumped my machine up to 16GB of memory.  Put the BIOS display configuration back to Optimus and installed RHEL 6.2.  Everything seems to work right out of the box.

Display actually shutdowns for Power Management (my HP's go black, but do not shut off completely).
