Does anyone try to reset BIOS to default settings? Maybe some legacy settings from older BIOS get "stucked"? I will try to reset my BIOS this night and see if something change.

I reset BIOS after update 1.30 on my T14 and the problems still exist.

X13 AMD is also affected, both suspend and poweroff (with firmware 1.30)

Let's hope Mark was able to unbrick his machine and continues to test those new BIOS versions..

Hi Mark,

@ MarkRHPearson wrote:

@jd_user - I' forwarded the information about the lid sensor to the BIOS team .

As an update on my testing results:

 - I confirmed that by dropping back to 1.29 EC/BIOS my drain in power off becomes minimal (0.4Wh in 17 hours)

 - I' been running a test update with 1.29 BIOS & 1.30 EC and I also have minimal drain there (0.1 Wh in 19 hours)

FWIW I have lid sensor enabled.

I believe the LID_SENSOR has either an unusual implementation or a BUG in the BIOS, missing to notify the OS

about changing events.

I cannot always reproduce that, but on both 5.11.4 & 5.10.21 I managed to get the following messages in my dmesg.

'ThinkPad-P14s kernel: ACPI: button: The lid device is not compliant to SW_LID'

The above just means buggy HW/BIOS missing to properly report events.

See the source code in the kernel:

https://bit.ly/3quUllN

I run the 1.30 BIOS on an P14s AMD ThinkPad.

If there is some unusual implementation probably a workaround could be sent to the kernel devels,

in either button or thinkpad_acpi modules.

running:

kernel: 5.11.2

bios: 1.30

lid sensor disabled

laptop state: power off

while it was not obvious at first, the battery still drains, bit by bit, probably around 1% in a 4-6 days.

using laptop only connected to power source at all times.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

FWIW, I can too confirm the issue exists on two identical units of P14s (AMD 7450,32GB, 500GB NVME,) with me.

After 5 days of not very scientific testing,

Unit A

Kernel 5.10 LTS (Arch with minimal KDE)

BIOS 1.30

Default BIOS Settings

Remaining* battery from fully charged after 9hrs** total shutdown: 98% , 97% , 98% , 96% , 97%

Unit B

Kernel 5.11 rolling  (Arch with minimal KDE)

BIOS 1.30

Default BIOS Settings

Remaining* battery from fully charged after 9hrs** total shutdown: 97% , 97% , 96% , 96% , 96%

*- readings were recorded once the systems have booted and logged into KDE

** +- 15 minutes , I still have a day job to attend to ;)

I have just downgraded unit A to BIOS 1.29 . Will do a full charge and shutdown later today and see how it goes.

Further to my non-official/non-scientific tests above, Unit A with firmware 1.29 now maintains a fair 1%-2% battery power loss per 8hrs (on total shutdown - first cold boot) from full charge. Again, these are very general observations and tests run in an everyday office environment.

Waiting for Mark and his team to get back to us.
