Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

I missed the WWAN question above.

Short answer - yes, only approved modems get tested and certified with Windows (it's not a Linux thing). There are various regulations involved (it's well outside of my jurisdiction). We're working on adding Linux support - but it's not there yet.

I'll have a look at the dock thread, thanks for the pointer....it's hard to catch them all.

Mark

For your suspend issue - did you change the sleep configuration in the BIOS to be ''. The AMD platforms don' currently support S0ix/Windows/Modern Standby (they' just been adding support to the kernel for it very recently)

The battery issue - I hear you, it' been a long road to get that fixed and understand on being frustrated. It is being worked on - a BIOS update is due out soon to address it.

I' not aware of a touchpad issue (though I recently found on the X13 AMD there is a trackpoint problem which I' looking into. This battery related thread keeps going sideways - but if you can point me at details I' take a look. I suspect it might be related to your suspend issues - but could be wrong.

Eh yeah, the thread is becoming a 'throw any issue in here' :)

Issues with trackpads exist bc of suspending but I can only speak of HW I own.

On the P14s, where psmouse doesn't support intertouch out of the box right now, if one

sets psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1, hybrid suspend or suspend to disk will

break the touchpad on resume, suspend to mem, idle etc is working.

Is not totally broken but not really usable anymore.

I didn't found any time to debug that, but I believe this is a kernel problem.

Poor Mark, you seem to be the only one taking care for our (Linux) problems. Nice to read that the WWAN support is not dead yet and may come in this decade :)

@nursoda I solved my problems of a not detected external 27" screen connected via original usb-c thinkdock gen2 by changing a setting in laptop bios. don't know the exact wording but sth. like "display bios messages on external screen: on" or swicth internal/external to external. the boot messages are displayed on internal screenwhen only using laptop.

set to internal I often had to unplug/plug usb-c dock. with setting to external I have success in 90%+ cases. Only in rare unplugged while in suspend cases I need to un/replug after resume. but that can be a kernel thing, too.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Hi,

I'm pretty sure the same thing also happening with Windows 10 Pro.   Last weekend on Friday battery was fully charged to 100%.  I didn't make a single turn-on the laptop until Monday morning. But when I turned on T14 AMD Windows 10 I noticed battery dropped to 88%.

Today (2021-04-23) once again before I left office I make sure battery was charged to 100%.  Then 45 minutes later I turn on when I arrived home and observed battery dropped to 99%.

I've been using T14 AMD 4750U for one month.   Still never have battery drained below 75% from normal usage. Power adapter is 99% plugged all the time.

Now the batter cycle count is 3.

I didn't observe this issue with my another T470 Intel Windows 10.    With T14 AMD, I don't think this is normal.  I already updated everything to the latest.

Any solutions to fix?

Thanks.

Just read the earlier discussion from this thread, sound like it might have something to do with BIOS setting.

I just made the some changes.

Before changes made
1. USB Always on = on
2. Lid sensor = on
3. Windows 10 in Power Option setting (Turn on fast startup) = checked (on)

4. BIOS version 1.30

With changes made
1. USB Always on = off
2. Lid sensor = off
3. Windows 10 in Power Option setting (Turn on fast startup) = unchecked (off)

4. BIOS version 1.29

At this time of writing this post battery charged to 99%.   Will update what observed.

guys, i'm not sure if i'm doing the right thing, but we've been spamming here with discussing other issues, not related to battery problems, so i thought to create another thread to gather all resources we now have:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Other-Linux-Discussions/T14-T14s-X13-P14s-AMD-based-various-issues/m-p/5076798

i think these new machines has much more issues than those threads there touch. probably that would wiser to gather all in one place. for novices that would be a great starting point. and we won't spamming here.

I think this a good idea. Please insert in the titles  other affected models (T14S and P14s).

Hi @MarkRHPearson

Could you provide an update on the current status of the BIOS update?

Also, any idea why the battery lifespan mode warning appears in UEFI diagnostics?
