Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

I'm 99% sure it's an EC firmware problem considering my T14s tries to charge my charger

We are working on the issue and plan to release a new BIOS with solution next week.

Thanks for the update. Will it include fixes that ikonovatsky collated in this topic?

Namely:

  1. ACPI Error: No handler for Region [ECSI]
  2. Unusable TSC
  3. Issues with external screen when docked
  4. Webcam performance issues

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Just about an hour ago I reproduced the battery drain while off problem.  Laptop had been shut down yesterday with battery in the 50s, booted up at 6%.  T14 AMD Gen1, but interestingly this is with BIOS 1.29.  I regularly shut down this laptop, this was the first time I've seen this with this BIOS version.  I did upgrade to 1.30 shortly after it was released then quickly downgraded when this bit me.  I wonder if 1.30 left some EC issue behind?

This was with the lid sensor enabled.  I've now disabled it.

This is all under Fedora 34, kernel 5.11.20-300.

Weird...I thought I'd replied to this topic a couple of days back...but it's not showing up :( I'll try again

I'm still waiting on confirmation for the update to be available (sent a nag) but:

1 & 2 (ACPI and TSC) should be fixed in the update (along with battery drain)

3 (screen) will not fixed by the update. I'm working with AMD on this one, it's not an easy issue I'm afraid

4 (camera) will not be fixed by the BIOS update, but the BIOS does allow the camera FW update to happen. Not sure if/when/how it will be delivered on LVFS - I've not had confirmation on that.

Mark

@ MarkRHPearson I have a T14 AMD sitting unopened. Do you think I would be better served sending it back and ordering the Intel option or a different ThinkPad altogether, or do they all have a similar list of problems? I will be honest, the primary reason I chose Lenovo was to avoid the hassles of getting some random laptop working with Linux. Perhaps the T14 Intel version of the P15/17 are more stable platforms?

Thank you, @MarkRHPearson! It's good to know that it (3) is being worked on.

So, new UEFI firmware is available..

Looking at the changelog r1buj63w.txt it seems that they fixed S5, but not S3 issue? Or maybe they are linked?

Only 1.30 is available for me, maybe it's a DNS issue.

try the lenovo website. not sure it will be available this soon on lvfs.

update: link for t14 firmware: https://support.lenovo.com/hk/en/downloads/ds544977-bios-update-utility-bootable-cd-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad-t14-gen-1-types-20ud-20ue

decided to test it out right away. ok, that did not brick the device, which is great.

dmesg shows a lot less red messages than before, i only get:

```
dmesg -l err
[   15.599471] amdgpu 0000:04:00.0: amdgpu: Unsupported power profile mode 0 on RENOIR
```

installed grafana/prometheus/node-exporter to monitor battery state, will see how it goes.

this seems to be solved, at least i don't see any error messages in system logs

> - Fixed an issue that ACPI Error: Region EmbeddedControl (ID=3) has no handler under Linux.
plugging/un-plugging usb-c (my display cable) port does not show these messages.
