Agree, let's wait to see what they say about it before jumping to conclusions though. But if the BIOS update doesn't fix it, it would have been a long wait for nothing.

I'd like to see what the BIOS update brings, but if there are still S3 problems we'll dig into them.

We'll be running e-cert again with the new BIOS and the aim is to pass that. So I wouldn't give up hope (though I admit....it's been rather a long road so far).

Mark

PS, As a note - My T14 AMD had sat idle for quite a few days, suspended, and the battery was still pretty full. Admittedly - not a very scientific test....

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Just a quick data point.  I upgraded my T14  AMD (20UDCTO1WW) to BIOS 1.32.  This is running Fedora 34, kernel 5.11.21.  4750U, 32GB RAM (OEM soldered 16G and a Crucial 16GB stick I bought for this machine).  Disk is also my own, a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB drive in place of the drive it came from OEM.

BIOS settings:  Lid sensor is enabled, always-on USB is enabled only on AC power.  Sleep is set to S3/Linux.

Power off test: So far so good.  I've shut down the machine and left it off for a few hours, then compared remaining battery capacity - no change.

Standby test:

$ date; cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now
Wed May 19 07:42:17 PM PDT 2021
34410000

(close lid, wait, open lid)

$ date; cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now
Wed May 19 11:11:14 PM PDT 2021
31830000

If I'm doing the calculation right that's 0.737W on standby.  Seems a bit high...

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Hi guys,

Although I am not using Linux on my P14s, I check this thread every day, because, I have similar problems in Windows and S0 and this thread has some attention. I assume, that the sleep problem is not related to OS, as it is related to the BIOS. Anyway, I have more questions/problems, so I will start a new thread in the P14s related forum.

I just wanted to share my problems with the sleep state. I think, that it is even worse than BIOS 1.29. I will try to test it more times, to be sure.

I can confirm, that the problem of BIOS 1.30 with the POWER OFF state disappeared in 1.32 (Power off works the same as in BIOS 1.29). The problem is still the SLEEP mode.

I have 3 problems related to sleep:

  1. S3 does not work with Windows: After putting the laptop to sleep, it will not wake up and just restart itself after pressing the power button or opening the lid
  2. S0 sleep bugs: Sometimes the laptop will not wake up and has to be HARD restarted with the power button and sometimes after wake up, the touchpad does not work (like once in 5 times)
  3. S0 sleep battery drain: I put my computer to sleep yesterday at 00:46 with 63% charged and after 2hours and 55 minutes, the battery drained by 47%. Then it hibernated itself, but soon after, it woke up and went back to sleep. In the morning at 07:29, I have opened the laptop with a 1% charge. I am enclosing the snip of my sleep report, I can provide the full report if somebody would like to have a look at it.

Yes. On shutdown it still drain battery. Never seen anything like this. Will try v1.32 and report back

--- edit --

actually, v1.32 is not on LVFS  (Linux users' firmware download service).... PLEASE update LVFS with the new firmware.

thanks.

for me, it still drained bit by bit even in 1.29 (linux), can’t say for sure yet about 1.32

so that’s clear they did not fix the issue under this thread.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

I updated my T14 to BIOS 1.32 yesterday and as far as I can see,

nothing has changed regarding S3: 14% battery loss in 10 hours,

more or less what I had before.

I still have to see if something has changed w.r.t the power off,

but for that I could've simply stayed on 1.29.

No improvements in the interactions between my T14 and my DELL WD15 USB-C Dock.

But hey, thanks for not breaking anything with this update :/

So essentially we have been discussing the standby issue

(which affects both Linux and Windows users and is by any means not acceptable)

for more than half a year and all we got is a new BIOS that fixes a couple

of minor things and a winds back a regression from the previous update.

Yeah, well, I don't know what should I say about this.

It becomes clear to me that they only try to pass the certification and don't seem to care about this thread.

Being negative doesn't help anyone.

I know they do care but like I explained in other threads,

it takes time *internally* to re-organize teams and so on.

Sorry but except for Mark, we don't have any acknowledgement from Lenovo that this issue will be fixed, and it's now more than 8 months it has been raised here. For a laptop, at that price, this kind of issue is shameful.
