I had an unofficial talk with my regional technical support and this issue doesn't couldn't as a defect. The laptop was issued with windows only. They will test it using windows. They will find no issues. This issue converts a laptop to paper weight. The option for someone really needing a proper S3 power state is to sale it to someone using only windows and buy something else, or in cases for a new unit, explore legal options to twist the arm of the local dealer and have a full refund for a defective product.

I call BS on that. I can buy these machines with FreeDOS.

Your regional technical support is wrong.

As long the machine is officially Linux supported by Lenovo

it is a defect.

FWIW, this, actually, seems to be the wisest thing to do for many. For family reasons I'm stuck in Ukraine atm, if I were in USA right now, I'd look for a way to return the faulty product for a full refund.

Just a reminder:

- the issue after almost 8 months is not acknowledged officially

- to a straight and simple question "what are Lenovo's plans regarding the issue" (asked mulitple times), we either get no answer or some BS about some e-cert

No update on the S3 issue yet but as there was some confusion above - please use the "Linux mode" setting for sleep in the BIOS, not "Windows".  Soix/Windows is not supported yet in Linux ( @osnix - yeah, I tried to get that name changed a year ago...that proposal got lost in the weeds)

There is one more confusing item in BIOS, do you want me to open a 'Things should be renamed in BIOS'  topic?.

Regarding S3/S0ix, what I meant is to test Windows in S3 too, since it works just fine.

The user just compared S0ix Windows to S3 Linux which are two different things.

Well, S0ix in Linux is starting to work, I used some patches against the latest stable

and it suspended and came back from sleep with some issue.

I had some time to look at both ACPI dumps of my ACPI tables, in S3 and S0ix mode.

While looking at the NVME part, which has some serious issues in S0ix, I noticed,

the PXSX implementation is different from everyone else.

( probably even S3 issues I have no idea what the magic numbers mean in that code.)

I'm not sure you are aware of the recent NVME/ACPI changes regarding that, but from my understanding,

even the old code didn't really work on Lenovo machines. Well, not work with firmware support, but instead

taking NVME APST default on the driver itself.

Have a look at that patch ( series ) and see even old code is looking for PEGP ( can't find that here ).

https://lore.kernel.org/linux-nvme/CAHQZ30DmGp04Mu03_MKP8iCZFH-UtxbGG1nvW7WE_P1MSKmTzQ@mail.gmail.com/T/#t

( please note that stuff moved now to ACPI code from NVME )

https://lore.kernel.org/linux-acpi/20210531065304.GB1417@lst.de/T/#t

Next, I'll try to look at what is wrong/different with the LID, bc there is clearly something wrong even now.

I keep getting the 'The lid device is not compliant to SW_LID.'  messages on resume.

( Don't expect me to fix stuff that is hard with -ENO_DOCS, but I may find some BUG the FW teams can then fix :) ).

Hi, is S3/Linux sleep mode working for you under Windows? For me, it does not work and instead of waking up, it restarts itself. S0ix works OK in Windows, with power consumption of around 400-500 mW (not sure how OK is that).

Hi @MarkRHPearson

Is there any update/progress regarding the S3 power drain issue?

OK, we've just finished refunding last couple of affected machines and now it is time to unsubscribe from this thread.

I sincerely wish Lenovo to iron-out all the wrinkles and support AMD platform on par with Intel.

All the best & good luck!

I missed the 30days return period. Did anyone manage to return it past 30 days?
